My mom thought the same thing -- that the show is tight enough in terms of introducing new elements/people that they wouldn't introduce another passenger in a flashback and not be intending to use her later.

As a casting director of a hot new show, I'd totally solicit biggish name people with busy schedules to pop in for a scene or two. It would be so fun!
