You never know if a girl's gonna say 'yes', or if she's gonna laugh in your face and pull out your still-beating heart and crush it into the ground with her heel.

I’m responsible for my own happiness? I can’t even be responsible for my own breakfast! (Bojack Horseman)

I think the hiatuses were just the biggest buzzkill ever. Stupid ABC.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Don't blame ABC so much! The crew was still shooting up until almost a week ago, IIRC. I don't know if JJ had anything to give them.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

The hiatuses are driven by sweeps week. So blame the Nielsens.

Not entirely. Not all shows have hiatii (say it out loud -- it's fun), or ones so long. There are ways around it, but you gotta have product.

it's fun to blame networks! Sheesh, it's like I don't even know you people anymore.

But what if you make them mad, and they take their toys and go away?

Again?

You always do this. We get tipsy, and you take advantage of my love of the scientific method.

or ones so long

Not really. Also, doesn't hiatus mean no show at all? We got three reruns and a clip show. That's really not all that different from what used to happen with Buffy.

Not really.

Not really what? Not really that all shows don't have hiatuses or that long?

But it's true...some shows start late and run all the way through.

True, but most of the scripted shows still have gaps between batches of new episodes. 24 is very much the exception rather than the rule.

Oh. I thought you were disagreeing with my "not entirely."

Never mind.
