Sayid -- errr, I actually can't remember his backstory, oops
He helped Nadia escape from the Iraqi prison & firing squad, and in the process shot his friend Omar. So I guess you could say Nadia screwed him over because she wouldn't talk about the bombing.
We still don't know why Sawyer and Sayid were on the plane. Despite his appearance in the police station, Sawyer clearly wasn't being extradited.
A lesser common thread I see, which isn't present in all the characters, AFAIK, is Parent-Child Issues.
Michael & Walt, Claire & baby, Jack & Dad, Sun & Korean mafia Dad, Sawyer & the long-ago scam on his family.
Again, does it mean anything? Doubtful. But still interesting.

His backstory ep didn't get to the part where he ends up in Sydney.

It means that JJA is chock full of daddy/parent issues. (See also, Alias.)

That's right. Okay, I feel better.
Sawyer I always assumed was on the plane to flee someone who was chasing him on a bicycle, yelling "I want my two dollars!"

Ah. So it wasn't just for talent that he raided the ruins of the Mutant Enemy Writers' room.
I just saw the last episode now. Amazing - esp since I was not looking forward to the Story. The character Micheal has been doing an amazing job of telling his story for Walt. I was 100% sure that it was his fault that he hadn't been in Walt's life. ( beautiful use of a unreliable narrator) And although I think babymama was Wrong, I gotta go with the idea that she thought it was best to cut all ties. But on the other hand, a part of her knew to keep the letters - a safty hatch if you will. Not thought out, a vague plan , or just a little cloud of thought. What good it would ever do , who knows. But if Brian wasn't crazy about Walt - you gotta have a plan B - no matter how ill formed.
and in an added note. 1 minute over run , I can deal with - the three minute ones - mean I will not worry about the last 2 minutes - I can deal with the recaps. Although I would have enjoyed seeing Claire appear out of the woods.
something that jumped out at me watching the episode was that Brian told Michael he had two one-way tickets from Sydney to New York for he and Walt. the flight was Sydney/LA. do flights from Sydney go direct to NY? and if so, why was he on the flight going to LA?
oh and a poster at the Fuselage says that there was a calendar in the hospital room scene that said it was 2000. the math doesn't add up because that would mean current year on the island would be 2008. i rewound and watched again, but i didn't see the calendar. maybe i just missed it. did anyone else catch it?
