I could squeeze you until you popped like warm champagne, and you'd beg me to hurt you just a little bit more.

I’m responsible for my own happiness? I can’t even be responsible for my own breakfast! (Bojack Horseman)

"monkey in the middle"

That's what I remember it being called too.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

A quick google suggests it's a Commonwealth thing.

The feeling you get when your brain finally lets your heart get in its pants.

I've always called it keep away myself.

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

Monkey in the middle to me is a particular variety of keep away. Two (or more) tormentors, one object, tossed back and forth over the head of the monkey. Keep away is more of a free-for-all.

"You see? THAT's what they want. Love, and a bit with a dog."

See, in these parts, 'monkey in the middle' was more of an actual game. 'Keep Away' was when you had someone's stuff and were actually trying to, well, you know.

Sure I went over to the Dark Side, but just to pick up a few things.

'Keep Away' was when you had someone's stuff and were actually trying to, well, you know.

In high school, we actually had rules with this about what you had to say. You would have to say "yoink" while taking the object with the (eventual) intention of returning it. "Gank" meant you were stealing it forever (such as a pen or a french fry).

Rules, to keep away? What is this world coming to. We scoffed at rules. Keep away was a no-holds-barred free-for-all. Blood was often involved in a serious session. I won't even call it a game. And that was just with me and my two brothers.

Tamara, that's great! After all our Sawyer talk today, it was too funny.
