I'm thinking a bunch of people who know jack shit about hunting/gathering for their daily bread probably spend the better part of their day worrying about food.
Locke's killing a pig a day, Jin's serving up sushi -- I never got the impression anyone was doing anything other than trying not to get bit by a dinosaur, or worrying about their father, or making up excuses for Iraqi bondage.
How many people does a pig feed per day? Anyone know? I feel like maybe I should start knowing this stuff.

Are you going to be flying out of Sydney any time soon?
I'm just thinking with all the wacky weather it might be useful knowledge in case of sudden apocalypse.
Hey, I just realized that Kate pulled the "I don't know how to work guns" line (from last night) on the island too, in the pilot. Which was stupid, because since then she has outed herself as a tracker who used to hunt with her father.
This site gives a range of 200-600 pounds per boar. Which would feed a lot of people.
Without refrigeration or salting, how long would boar meat last? Like if you killed a boar and cooked it over open flame, and fed everyone supper, wrapped the cooked meat, I assume it would last through to the next night if stored in a cool place like the caves.
Or you could make boar jerky, which would last a long time. My former BiL made venison jerky and used to take it out on hikes.
You could also wrap it and store it in a warm place, like buried underneath some embers. I need to find my old copy of The Boy Scout Crusoes. It was full of great tips like that.
