Heh. Really, that line about firework smugglers was the most ludicrous thing ever. Kudos to Naveen Andrews for delivering that line without bursting into laughter.
I wonder how many more signal rockets they have left over? Considering they haven't given up hope for rescue yet, I thought wasting three of them for triangulation was a rather poor call.

I'm half-hoping it will turn out that the reason Jin and Sun were in Australia is because Jin was put in charge of the Korean mob's international fireworks smuggling ring. Because it would be a shame to waste such a great throwaway line.

I think EL is terrific as Kate. At some moments her inexeprience shows, but much less than, say, CC as early Cordelia.

That's when actors earn their money -- not only being able to deliver a line like that with conviction, but repeat it over several takes, from different angles, close enough that you can see their nostril hairs and from far enough away that they can't see the camera without their glasses. And while the crew is struggling not to break up over the line....

Back on topic:
One thing that occurred to me that I didn't see mentioned in regard to Sawyer's motives for being such a jackass and making everyone hate him. I don't think it's just about the self-hate and not deserving to be liked. It's also a defense: if he alienates everyone he comes in contact with, it becomes impossible for him to get back into the con.
Taking what we saw in the ep at face value, the realization of how much he'd become Sawyer seems to have been a real shock, and left him pretty much reeling. He can't trust himself to resist the game, so instead he preemptively trashes any shot he might have at drawing people in.

The fireworks smuggling? I was assuming they meant someone had stashed a bunch of them in plastic in a crate or large luggage. I guess I expected tourists to be doing the smuggling.
Because organized smuggling of explosives via an airline? Dangerous, stupid, and the volume would make it costly as a business expense.
