t sheds a tear at the thought of Gus with another Korean goilfriend
Yeah, Jin doesn't know about Sun speaking English. The translation on that scene was something like, "WHAT ARE YOU DOING WITH HIM?", like, totally with the ASSCAPS and way ruder. It was more like "WHAT ARE YOU DOING WITH THAT RAT BASTARD?", actually.
Jin has an American accent
Well, that's because Daniel Dae Kim grew up in United States and his Korean is bad from lack of practice--it's an actor thing, not a character thing. To my ear, his American-accented Korean also has a twinge of regional accent from the Southeast provinces of Korean, which I chalk up to the fact that his parents are from Pusan and probably had wee bit of regional accent from the area. However, unlike the rigid association between accent and class in, say, Britain, the class distinction according to accents isn't as big a deal in South Korea. The actress who plays Sun has the standard accent of someone born and raised in Seoul (although I understand she spent her adolescence in NY.)
That's awesome! Jin is all jealous! And he doesn't even know Michael totally saw her in the buff. Right?
Also? How do Other People watch tv without the invisible people in the box to make them privvy to all kinds of sooper sekrit information? I heart the Buffista Official Translation Engine.

Ran this past the goilfriend, and she was in agreement. She is out of Pusan, too. "Out of" meaning her parents live there, now, and she was raised there. She has a 'class' association with the Seoul accent. It might be personal problem, but my thinking is that she (the goifreind) is well-educated, even
exceptionally,
educated, however much I may want to snuggle with VonnieK.

Wheeee! Do I get a pin? A benefit package?
And he doesn't even know Michael totally saw her in the buff. Right?
Nope. At least he hasn't said or done anything to suggest it (like, stabbing Michael in the heart with one of Locke's knives, for example.)

Our everlasting devotion and appreciation?

Ha! So true. When we think of how ballistic he went over attacking him for "stealing" his father-in-law's watch, I can't imagine the nuclear arsenal he'd unleash upon thinking Michael had stolen (even glances) at his father-in-law's daughter.

Plus, I do think Jin loves Sun, a lot. It is a fucked up love, to be sure, but I do think he loves her.

Dude, no kidding. It's a whole different way of watching TV. I was discussing
Lost
with a much-less-fannish friend the other day, and telling her all about who the actors are and what the various theories about the monster are, blah blah totally-normal-discussioncakes, and she said, "Wow, you are REALLY into this show! How do you know all this?" I had sort of forgotten that not everybody has a place like the Buffistas where they can come to learn all these very important things.
Oh, totally. I think almost all the fucked-up-ness comes, in one way or another, out of that unbelievably passionate love.
I parenthesized wrong in the above paragraph. Should have been "had stolen (even glances at) his father-in-law's daughter. Just for the record.
Just like inevitably the post of mine that got COMMed a while back was totally full of typo's and spello's. Very sad to be thus immortalized. But you know, own damn fault. Heh!
Anyway, I like the developing storyline. I can't wait for Jin's own backstory (because I trust and believe that we're getting it and that I'll go OMGWTF appropriately).
