If every vampire who said he was at the crucifixion was actually there, it would have been like Woodstock.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

Mmmmmmmmmmm, that was some good show.

If Not!Sawyer's used to conning people out of hundreds of thousands of dollars at a time, I have no trouble believing that he could get himself to Australia.

I'm so over Kate. She can die next.

Sayid is a nummy treat, and I'm glad we're getting to his story.

Charlie and Claire are adorable, but what was with Charlie making her carry her own bag? The woman's 8+ months pregnant, man!

Sure I went over to the Dark Side, but just to pick up a few things.

I have to chime in about Claire and Charlie. The blinvisible peanut butter was really sweet. When Charlie started to open his bag I was worried he'd brokered some kind of weird deal with Locke for it, but it was just his imagination and Claire liked. So yay!

This was the best scene of this episode! I had to rewind it so many times.

It's full. Full to the brim of mouth-watering, oh God, need a glass of milk, extra smooth... It's the best bloody peanut butter I've ever had.

His facial expression when he was doing this was priceless.

arby, I must have skimmed, because I missed your asking about spoiler policy. It's laid out in the FAQ, but the short answer is, spoilers go in the spoiler threads, not in here.

Kiss me, my girl, before I'm sick.

Arby, info like that probably fits the best in the newly-resurrected Spoiler Lite: The Electric Boogaloo.

That he went into the situation, offered his skills and experiences to Jack as to his nominal superior officer, believing that following Jack's orders somehow absolved him of at least part of the responsibility for what he was doing "for the greater good."

That's interesting Sayid characterization. Disturbing, too, when you think of how Sayid butted heads with Jack on other survival-related tasks--one alpha male to another--yet he clearly consigned Jack the leadership role when it came to inflicting calculated violence. It doesn't paint him in flattering light. (Which is fine, 'cause I like my fictional heroes flawed.)

As for Kate... they should be able to do more with the character. Hot as that kiss with Sawyer may have been, she should be more than conflicted romantic interest for three different guys. For example, I dug that she decided to stay on the beach for a reason of her own. Show that she has agency separate from the men, show her interacting with the women in an interesting way, *then* we're going somewhere interesting. The way it is now, she seems to have alienated a large bulk of the fandom (and not just the rabid Sawyer fangirls), which is too bad, because I think the actress, inexperience as she is, has potential (I was blown away by her 'count to five' scene in the pilot part 2.)

That's the pain / That cuts a straight line down through the heart / We call it love

Frankly, if I were Kate, I'd tell him there wasn't time to deal with his psychodrama and that if he wanted to be hurt he would have to do it himself.

Heather is me WRT Sawyer. Actually, he reminded me strongly of Faith in this episode, all "Kill me! I'm bad, I'm bad, I want to die, just kill me already!"

I'm guessing that Sawyer went to Australia to get away from people who would otherwise kill or arrest him, and that he was returning because he'd gotten some sort of lead on the original Sawyer. That would also explain why he had the letter so ready to hand.

OK, I like that idea. In general, I'm pleased to think that we'll be getting multiple flashbacks for various characters, because so far almost every backstory has given us more questions than answers.

I don't think the mysterious figure with the needles in next week's preview is from a flashback. Have we seen any flashback scenes in any of the previews yet? I think it's the French woman whose distress call was repeating for 16 years. I'm also leaning towards thinking she's the one who clocked Sayid last week, though it could still be Locke. I don't think there's anyone else among our main characters who would have done it. Also, I am finding SailAweigh's Locke=Loki theory more convincing with each episode.

The hair was right for the "Seduce the lady" part. Am I right?

All slicked down in the restaurant scene? Not this lady.

Boone isn't growing on me. Stupid kid.

More for me!

Dread Pirate Sawyer

Hee!

But he stopped the instant Jack said to. Under orders. The good soldier. Personal feelings aside. Duty. "Go get my bag," and Sayid goes. He doesn't dog it, he runs.

But Beverly, that was after he'd nearly killed Sawyer in blind rage. I think that was really what he couldn't forgive himself for. The torture was awful, but he thought it was necessary at the time, and you're right that he offered calmly and let Jack decide whether or not to use him. But once Sawyer revealed that he didn't have the inhalers, then Sayid lost his shit (possibly made easier because he'd already started down that path again with the torture) and went after Sawyer with intent to kill, although he did pull himself back from the edge in time. Still, I think it was the fact that he nearly killed Sawyer after it was revealed that he didn't have what they were looking for that made him realize he'd broken his vow.

Ever fired your gun in the air and yelled, 'Aaaaaaah?'

I thought this was the best episode since Walkabout. It did lower my opinion of Sawyer. I used to guiltily like him but now I just wish him pain. As long as it's quiet like. I just don't want him to get eaten by the Iron Giant because, well, dimples.

Sayid is very interesting and I can't wait to see his episode. Charlie and Claire are too cute beyond words. Some random trivia: The actress who looked like Emma Caulfield appeared on an episode of Angel. She was a reporter trying to interview Jasmine.

See? I gave everybody here an opportunity to tell me what a bad person I am and nobody did, because I fuckin' rule.

Good GOD, yes. I actually liked Sawyer's backstory quite a bit and think the actor's performance is terrific, but none of that stopped me from wishing Sawyer all kinds of harm last night.

I spent the last three seasons of Buffy woobifying the holy everliving fuck out of Spike, but it is so very much not happening with Sawyer. He's genuinely deeply unpleasant, wounded, layered backstory and all. Which is, really, fine by me. I'd wriggle with wrathful glee if the writers had the nerve to create a character with a woobieful history and a world of pain who was still and all just plain fucked-up and unredeemed and unredeemable.

Of course, it's totally possible that even as I type this, lavishly appointed shrines to Sawyer's woobieness are going up all over the internets, but fortunately I really only hang out here.

Loved Charlie and Claire. Especially loved Claire's moment of hesitation, that brief little omgwtf? look before she dissolved into giggles and joined him with the blinvisible. The whole scene was very Monkey Pants.

JZ is me. Please, writers, have Sawyer remain a jackhole. Despite my initial "Arr! Too gooey!" reaction to his back story, I've come around to thinking it was v. effective, because it made Sawyer's attitudes/actions *understandable* but in no way excusable. Plus, we have another character with a heartbreaking back story (Locke), who, far from being an woobie, manages to out-creep the epileptic trees.

I don't think the mysterious figure with the needles in next week's preview is from a flashback.

I don't know why I thought it was. Just assumed, I think. So looking forward to next week. It'd be cool to get a reveal of others on the island. Especially if, like, Sayid gets his memory wiped about it or something (OK, Alias creeping in again.)

I liked the ep, but I wasn't blown away. I was thinking the same thing about the scruff in the restaurant. Shave, dude. And then I started wondering how they're going to handle beard issues in the series. Are they all going to have castaway beards? Heh. I guess they'll just make the time go verrrrry slowly.
