Has anyone found a transcript site, or — dog forbid — a shooting script site?
I had actually thought about sitting down to write out the scripts that were broadcast so I can look for clues. I don't have a website, so I wouldn't know where to post, though.
I'm still on the "Kate is one of the most interesting characters" train, but I do see the apparent schoolgirlishness of her crush as a knock against her. I liked the scene last week where she was pretty upfront asking if she was being ogled (too bad, so sad, Kate). But the petulance and angst later was really off-putting, and dropping everything to go to Jack's rescue rather than telling Sawyer to haul his ass there, help out, and she'd follow as soon as 5:00 came was a letdown.
I like her a lot better when she's all stalwart and competent helping Sayid or facing off against Sawyer.
Nice links lori, thanks.
I'm not going to write off Kate as an interesting character yet on the basis of a crush. It happens.
On the "Which team does Jack play for?" front: while I think it unlikely that the producers would choose their male lead as the show's token poof, there is also the matter that for a guy, picking another guy to get flirty with has a bit more risk of failure than a girl on average. Jack's had confrontations with both Sayid and Sawyer, and can see that Boone is a nincompoop. And with Kate on him like white on rice, Hurley's really the only guy he's had the chance to interact with enough to become friends prior to tonight.
Matt, double extra points for use of the word "nincompoop".
Aside from that, yeah. And, you know, they've been on the island, like, a week, and half of that time was spent sun-addled and wandering away from each other. The characters are just barely getting to know each other now.

Yeah. That's why I liked the "I'm Scott" "
I'm
Steve!" bit. Of
course
you wouldn't have all 46 or so names down pat after just a week.
Random thoughts:
One thing that I finally noticed is that we haven't yet had anyone say
anything
along the lines of "poor Mom/girlfriend/father of my baby/older brother--I bet they've heard about the crash by now and are worried sick/think I'm dead, etc." That strikes me as very, very odd for some reason.
Maybe Kate's crime is that she's a stalker-serial-killer type who develops obsessions with men and then kills them when she feels they aren't returning her interest enough.
I'm kind of hoping that Sawyer
doesn't
have a heart of gold, and that he's exactly what he seems to be--an amoral bastard who's out for every advantage he can get. Also--and I'm still trying to figure out why I think this--I have a feeling that Sawyer is an ex-cop or something of that ilk.

Oh my yes. That's been bugging me too. The first thing I thought when I saw the pilot was that if the same thing happened to me, after being relieved that I was still alive (as far as i know), I would be in hysterics about my Mom thinking I was dead.
I've wanted to see Sawyer's background from the beginning. He's intriguing. The backstory doesn't have to be OMGWTF!!! but I hope it's really solid and instead of being cliche-y. I like Sawyer, he's a jerk but right now I can think he's a complex jerk.
Charlie's story was okay, although I agree that he went too quickly from "you're a junkie ruining the band!" to trying it out. Somehow, the way Charlie acted on the island, I was thinking Driveshaft was a new band, but maybe not one that's at the top of the charts, so Driveshaft being just a teeny bit HCL-ish.
I'm with the people who think that Sawyer accidentally on purpose told Kate about Jack. I think he was going to tell Kate about Jack when he first met up with her and Sayid, but then she smacked him down so hard he decided not to in a spiteful way.
Have to admit I got bored toward the end with the moth thing so I flipped to the end of Smallville, and I missed most of it except the drug burning. I figured before the episode even really got going that Charlie was going to decide he didn't need his drugs.

Hydrochloric acid-ish?

I didn't even think it was ambiguous. Sawyer knew Jack wasn't actually dead, and he deliberately spoke of him as if he were to get Kate's attention.
