Daniel, I thought exactly the same thing when I was watching. She looks measurably younger in the first flashback, and I think her acting of it was really quite amazing. Good performance and well done filming/make-up. Go them.

After I posted, I thought, "He probably did." Look! I'm clairvoyant. (I'm going to have to look that up for spelling before I hit post; I so got it right). Yes, this. Jack is talking about beach versus cave, and wondering about her reticence. I think maybe Kate is thinking in terms of boy versus girl issues, and wondering about his obliviousness.

I think that my having missed the Kate episode is the problem. I didn't see her as particularly willful or distrusting (moreso than anyone on the island) ... just, not so much wanting to what he wanted her to do. So, I would get that he'd be annoyed by that maybe, but I didn't see putting it off on her as warranted. The moment just played weirdly to me.

Hurley pissed me off this ep. First, still calling Jin "the Chinese guy" and then playing his discman while Charlie was playing guitar. Rude! I wonder when will get his story.

On rewatch, Charlie is not performing with his guitar, he's sort of touching it and tuning it, and strumming it and generally cooing over it. It's not like Hurley is ignoring Charlie serenading the gathering throng.
