Dudley and Pansy Parkinson 4eVah!

This thread is a focused discussion group. Please see the first post below for the current topic and upcoming book discussions. While natter will inevitably happen, we encourage you to treat this like a virtual book club and try to keep your posts in that spirit.
By consensus, this thread is reopened specifically to discuss Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. It will be closed again once that discussion has run its course.
***SPOILER ALERT***
Dudley and Pansy Parkinson 4eVah!
EXACTLY!!!
Another story I'd love to read is Snape's POV of 7th year.
Oh, would LOVE to see that.
And while Ginny would probably jump Harry's bones at the first opportunity, I suspect Harry would have to get over some worries about how Ron would react.
Oh its just so TRUE!
You know how Harry kisses Ginny and then leads her out of the common room at the end of Chapter 24 of HBP? I doubt his virginity made it to Chapter 25.
Oh see now, that would be sad. Let them have their happy teenage fumbling... everything is so mysterious and fun. Such a shame to rush that.
Luna started a blog
Oh. My. I am now filled with the urge to write that. Sure, the computer part would have to be all handwavium, but the notion of writing Luna's blog entries is nigh irresistible.
Luna started a blog
She should also have a bit in each blog called "Luna's Daily Nargle" and it be one thing that irritated her that day.
I always thought of butterbeer as being slightly alcoholic, the way rootbeer used to be, back when they used fermentation to make bubbles.
Sure, the computer part would have to be all handwavium, but the notion of writing Luna's blog entries is nigh irresistible.
I think that Luna would have some incredible, fanciful description of the computer, a magical lighted tablet or something.
So then Butterbeer is alcoholically like the "near beer" or non-alcoholic beer sold here in the US, only better tasting. I think it tops out at .5% alcohol
There's a fermented cola made in the UK (we used to be able to get it at Yum, the local fancy-pants soda boutique, but it has alas closed) with a similar present-but-wee alcohol count. You could try to get drunk on it, but your bladder would burst or you'd go into sugar shock long before you'd gotten even the tiniest buzz off it.
Unless you're a house elf, I suppose.
And what about Senior Week?! WOOOO (I'm guessing Senior Week is not actually a thing in the UK...but it is funny to imagine them all drunk on wine coolers, sleeping on the beach, getting into drunken epic fight with their best friends, and making out with random dudes from DC...um not that I'd know anything about that kind of a Senior Week. woo)
....there is already more than enough fanfic out there that seems to be under the impression that the UK is America with funny accents - that we live on blocks, have Graduation and Spring Break, that "pants" refers to trousers and...and I think I'm going to need a lie down or a stiff drink. I'm sure that someone somewhere has written this, if you want to go looking.
I too have assumed that butterbeer is similar to shandy, which kids can buy and drink back home (mmmm, shandy! The perfect beverage for a hot summer day!) but which is a half/half mix of beer and lemonade. But of course the name reminds one of butterscotch, and implies a greater degree of sweetness.
Fanfic wishlist? God, SO many things!
I have to say, the thing that cracks me up about a lot of fic is how what seems to me to be a VERY American author trying to work in the British lexicon to make it seem like the author is British, but gets a little carried away and tries too hard. IME, this leads to shag, shag, shag. Knickers, knickers, mate. SNOG SNOG knickers mate shag shag cup o' tea.
