I hereby decree that "speculum" is the new "Hitler." IOW, please stop? Pretty please?
Sure, as long as you realise I may not be able to look at Hitler again without snickering.
This thread is a focused discussion group. Please see the first post below for the current topic and upcoming book discussions. While natter will inevitably happen, we encourage you to treat this like a virtual book club and try to keep your posts in that spirit.
By consensus, this thread is reopened specifically to discuss Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. It will be closed again once that discussion has run its course.

I'm trying to wipe the image of a swastika from my head.

Well, I should think so.
o god, what did he say that he deleted it?
It was just a double post.
Aw, you. Spoiling my fun.
On re-read I am noticing that JKR does spend a fair amount of time on wandlore even if it is still convoluted in the climax.
The funniest line in the book was when Ron gave Harry the How to Pick Up Witches book, and said, "It's not all wand work, either." I choked on my water.
I was pretty sure I heard some slashers giggling when Hermione was changing Ron's appearance, and Harry's comment was "well he's not my type, but he'll do."
My god, Hermione whines. "But Harry you promised you wouldn't let the Dark Lord overpower you anymore and get into your head!" Damn it, girl, you think he enjoys this? You think he doesn't remember anything unless you harp about it?
He's tempted by doing it. It gives him knowledge. Hermione thinks the risk is more significant than the reward, she always has.
It's a nice grey area.
And, yeah, as fond as I am of porn and filth, I vote "not in the kids book please" as well.
