This thread is a focused discussion group. Please see the first post below for the current topic and upcoming book discussions. While natter will inevitably happen, we encourage you to treat this like a virtual book club and try to keep your posts in that spirit.

By consensus, this thread is reopened specifically to discuss Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. It will be closed again once that discussion has run its course.

How are you me? You need to stop that. Only I can be me. ~Kara

I can no longer read a Sherlock Holmes story without hearing Basil Rathbone's voice.

The stories are up here: [link]

Please do your best to try to break the links before we start reading so I can make sure everything works properly.

Deena, You are the BEST.

All the links look great in IE on my Mac. Thanks.

I clicked through them all, and they all worked. And look great. So wonderful of you to do.

Thanks, Jen. (It wasn't hard once I realized the extra stories Ginger wanted were short. Moment of panic before that moment, though.)

Richard Roxburgh as Holmes

Oooo!

Yay! With Ginger's proposed schedule I should just about be able to participate. I've read HotB several times, as well as TSB, but none of the others. And I've always felt like I should know more about Holmes than I do (a family friend has one of the largest Holmesiana collections in the world, and my family is from around Moriarity, NM, which has a big Holmes do every year).

Thanks, Ginger! Thanks, Deena!

So this is the order, with dates, right?

A Scandal in Bohemia and The Red-Headed League -- 9/7

The Speckled Band and The Blue Carbuncle -- 9/14

1st half Hound of the Baskervilles -- 9/21

2nd half -- 9/28

"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

Nicol Williamson (a very close fourth)

And don't forget his Watson - Robert Duvall. Very strange casting that, but Duvall was one of my favorite Watsons ever (you're right though, Mason was quite good). I'm just curious who ever thought Duvall = Watson. I NEVER would have come up with that.

Also, Peter Cushing made quite a good Holmes in the Hammer HotB (and was supposed to be superlative in a BBC series that, unfortunately, got wiped or supressed when the Brett series started - I memfault which).

Warren Ellis discusses what a bastard Holmes is here.
