Buffista Movies 3: Panned and Scanned

A place to talk about movies--Old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Has Denzel done any popular candy movies?

Possible candidates include: The Siege, Crimson Tide, The Bone Collector. He also has The Preacher's Wife under his belt in the romance category, but that was a black movie, so it counts for half.

Wait! Training Day! It was his biggest opener too.

I'd just assumed he was bankable in the general market. But I think he has a) critical acclaim b) the ability to put black butts in the seats c) heartthrob status. But that's all.

Millions of men would like to be so unlucky, but still.

"Mister Spock is on his fanny, sir. Reports heavy damage."

Earned Run Average. For all values where the shit being thrown = horsehide, and the sticking to a wall = not being hit out of the park.

Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

Not just franchise--ACTION franchise. The movies have to be crowd pleasers in Europe and Latin America and Asia as well. That's why Schwazenegger was so huge.

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

Chris Rock said there were only four stars. And then he named Clint Eastwood, Tom Cruise, Russell Crowe, and Denzel Washington.

Apart from sports, "my secret favorite thing on earth is ketchup. I will put ketchup on anything. But it has to be Heinz." - my husband, Michael Vartan

I didn't say Keira Knightley is a movie star. I said, according to the list. Dude. Her cash flow doesn't lie. I'm aware that none of those were really her movies, though, anymore than I'd say Orlando's movies were his.

I think Chris Rock is wrong. Clint Eastwood? Seriously? As a huge star today, despite the awards last night?

Hell, yeah. Russell Crowe and Denzel Washington are both good, but they're not starrier than, say, Julia Roberts. Clint? Long and glorious history, critically acclaimed present -- takes more than that to make a star in my books, if you're only picking 4.

"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

Has Denzel done any popular candy movies?

He does seem to have an affinity for the random, empty-cal action movie - VIRTUOSITY, RICOCHET, MAN ON FIRE, etc. The first two are dumb, but a LOT of fun (only saw the original Scott Glenn version of the third).

I also think TRAINING DAY was one of those that crossed over because he played the antagonist instead of the hero.

If I only had a brain...

Her cash flow doesn't lie.

Ah. Then Anthony Daniels is an international superstar.

Apart from no one knowing his face, yeah.

We need a site that shows how much the performers make. I wonder if he made mad bank for the last three flicks.

I love Virtuosity. And I want Russell Crowe's purple suit. It's a very fun movie.
