Buffista Movies 3: Panned and Scanned

A place to talk about movies--Old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

I'd also say that Jim Carrey is sliding off the list, but I don't think he's left it entirely yet. He'll need, if not a bomb, a few poor openings to be able to tell for sure.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Did Bruce Almighty do well? Looking at imdb, that was the last movie that Carrey carried (heh) -- I mean, Lemony Snicket is Lemony Snicket, and the Eternal Sunshine audience saw it in spite of him, no?

If I only had a brain...

Are there any more women at all? Maybe Zellweger, but the romantic comedy with Ewan McGregor bombed.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Interesting lists:

Re: All time box office stars, I think this ought to be sorted by franchise. The Star Wars movies aren't high earners because of Samuel L. Jackson.

Did Bruce Almighty do well?

If I read the box office/opening weekend data right, I think it did soundly own its weekend. It was a Memorial Day weekend, and probably opened for more than just the normal three days, and did $85 million, which is pretty big. And the "On this date" page shows only the In-Laws also opening that weekend, and it only made $9 million.

I really love Sven Ole-Thorsen's list of roles. Thug. Mercenary. Gunman.

Anthony Daniels -- Biggest Star Ever. That's awesome.

The hulking 6' 5" actor first came to attention as one of Thulsa Doom's bodyguards... The hammer wielding "Thorgrim", in the highly popular, Conan the Barbarian (1982).

Oh! My man! Sven!

If I want to become a cloud of bats, does each bat need a separate vaccination?

I'd definitely rank Nicole Kidman over Renee Zellweger in the star contest. (And no, not just because I loathe RZ with the white-hot intensity of a thousand suns.)

Halle Berry, I'm not sure about.
