A place to talk about movies--Old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

A Clockwork Kitty
What is movies that Hec will never see?
Oy. Just saw Hotel Rwanda. Normally I don't sob. I'm a pretty quiet cryer. I hyperventilated. I hope I was quiet.
Don Cheadle is a deliciously gentle actor. Not all the time, but very nice and delicate in this picture.
I didn't see Ocean's 12 -- was his English accent still atrocious? He seemed to manage his Rwandan accent fine.
Wasn't it great, ita?
But I still don't understand what it was about the wife's role that got Sophie Okonedo (I hope I spelled that right) an Oscar nomination. I mean, all she did was interchange the lines, "Can you save them all? Because they're our neighbors. I saw that guy once at the grocery store. Can you save him?" and "How dare you save people without discussing it with me first!" and crying. It was frustrating to watch, and I feel that there would have to have been more depth to the real person, and this role just did not reflect that at all. That said, I did like the roof top scene between them, when he told her about having her transferred .
She did definitely have life then, and when she came back to the hotel after the failed convoy. But only for a second, and then she went back into the same portrayal. I saw her on an episode of MI 5, and I swear she was better then. However, I kept imagining Gina Torres in the role, because of a gig of hers on The Guardian.
I loved watching Don Cheadle change. His beats are marvellous.

Do you mean the scene with the tie? Because that was heartbreaking. He was wonderful.
That scene, the scene when he realised from watching Colonel Oliver that something was wrong, and the progression to the distrust of European assistance, and also his decision to not go on that first convoy.
Oh, yeah, absolutely. I was just reading "change" in a literal way.
Oh man, and the scene with the kids and the nuns and priests and everyone who was obviously there because they cared being separated? So heartbreaking. So, nice work by the day players, as well.
Don Cheadle's accent in Ocean's Twelve was actually bearable this time. The best bit was that he kept giving Julia Roberts tips about her accent when she was pretending to be Julia Roberts .
