You could argue that Winslet is due.

Buffista Movies 3: Panned and Scanned
A place to talk about movies--Old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.
Imelda Staunton is freaking AMAZING in that movie. Definitely one of the best film performances I have ever seen.
The Razzies are also out. [link]
The Razzies, which mock the worst in film, gave "Catwoman" a leading seven nominations Monday, among them worst picture, worst actress for Berry and worst supporting players for Sharon Stone and Lambert Wilson. "Catwoman" also was nominated for worst screen couple for Berry with either Stone or co-star Benjamin Bratt.
The historical bomb "Alexander" was second with six Razzie nominations, including worst picture, actor Colin Farrell, actress Angelina Jolie and director Oliver Stone.
I think that Winslet would have had a better chance if (a) ESotSM came out in the fall instead of mid-winter, and (b) Finding Neverland had bigger buzz, which would have spilled over onto her performance in the other movie. Also, she's getting so many excellent roles that I think the Academy will be thinking she can get nommed again in another year or two.
Good point about Imelda Staunton, Kathy.
Is Kate Winslet too young to win for her body of work? I think this is her third nomination or so, and while "Eternal Sunshine..." may be from too early in the year, "Findiing Neverland" might remind voters of her.
Edit: ... and another X-post.
Actually, I think this is her fourth nominee--Best Supporting for Sense and Sensibility and Iris, and Best Actress for Titanic and now Eternal Sunshine. Considering she isn't yet 30, that has to be a record!

I agree. It'd be a tough call between her or Hilary Swank, if I had to choose, but honestly, I'd be happy with almost any of them. (I didn't see Being Julia because I heard nothing but bad things about it, Benning's performance excepted, but I loved all the others.)
Hee--love the list of Worst Actors for the Razzies:
Ben Affleck / JERSEY GIRL and SURVIVING CHRISTMAS
George W. Bush / FAHRENHEIT 9/11
Vin Diesel / CHRONICLES OF RIDDICK
Colin Farrell / ALEXANDER
Ben Stiller / ALONG CAME POLLY, ANCHORMAN, DODGEBALL, ENVY and STARSKY & HUTCH
I'm also wondering if Swank might win again. On the one hand, I think she's too young to deserve a second Oscar, and I can't believe the voters wouldn't feel the same, especially since she didn't do much interesting work between "Boys Don't Cry" and now. On the other, her part is the type most likely to win an Oscar (overcoming obstacles, no glamorous makeup, etc.)
Is she actually, you know, any good in the movie?
I liked Ben Stiller in Starsky and Hutch.
