Don't you just love this party? Everything's so fancy, and there's some kind of hot cheese over there.

Buffista Movies 3: Panned and Scanned

A place to talk about movies--Old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

I think someone actually posted the surprise in white-font here before.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Reading that article makes me feel like I missed something. Weird. I did feel bad telling a friend about it on the train the other day, because I didn't want to spoil innocent eavesdroppers.

Also related to that movie, I am tired of seeing movies that aren't R-rated. No one says "fuck" in a boxing gym? Uh-huh. Same thing with In Good Company -- I swear they re-looped "frigging" over a "fucking" in one scene. These are movies for adults! Go for the R! Fuck, man.

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

Heh. Some idiot spoiled Scream for me in Spanish class.

Apart from sports, "my secret favorite thing on earth is ketchup. I will put ketchup on anything. But it has to be Heinz." - my husband, Michael Vartan

One hint: When was the last time Hilary Swank played a female character, people?!

Buffy ? Does Clint Eastwood want her yellow leather jacket?

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

Her character in The Core was a woman as well, though I can understand the vast majority of people not having seen it to know.

Ficht nicht mit Der Raketemensch!

Re MDB (no actual spoilers) I went in knowing the "twist", and it made little difference to me, except that you pick up on certain hints of what's coming sooner. It's not a film where knowing the twist is going to ruin it, certainly.

Up with the sun

Oscar Nominations are out.

I didn't see that many movies this year, so I can't say whether this is a good list or a bad one. It will be nice if Kate Winslet and Martiin Scorcese win, though.

Edit: X-post with ita.

Kiss me, my girl, before I'm sick.

Damn. I can't believe Paul Giamatti was left out of the Best Actor category when Thomas Haden Church and Virginia Madsen got nominated. Not that those two weren't good, but Giamatti's performance was even better. I guess they had a lot of strong contenders for the Best Actor statue this year. Of the flicks with noms for Best Actor, I've only seen Finding Neverland and Hotel Rwanda.

We're very stretchy. - Connie Neil

I've got some movies to see in the next six weeks--I haven't seen ANY of these!
