The bit that just kills me is the multiple suicide sequence in the middle. Especially that slo-mo swan dive off a church. It made me cry and cry the first time around. Still sniffles when I get to that, after umpteenth viewing. Oh, and the whole card-throwing-from-bed scene. ::sniff::

Roxanne is my alltime favorite Steve Martin movie. One of the best of the "small town with quirky residents" genre. Actually, it shares a lot in common with Groundhog Day, including having a rather bad actress playing the romantic female lead.

OMG Zardoz. The best part of owning this is the commentary track -- basically just John Boorman going "Yeah...I don't really remember what this scene was supposed to be about...sorry..." for two and a half hours. It's AWESOME.
I bought this on DVD just for the commentary. Sadly, I was hoping it would explain what the hell he was thinking. I haven't gotten around to watching it yet (cause, hey, Zardoz, and Sean Connery in a loin cloth isn't my turn on, thought, ya know, Charlotte Rampling, growrrrrr), but this both saddens and makes me look forward to it.
Groundhog Day sucks majorly. / I liked Van Helsing. / I also enjoyed Underworld,
I suspect these three statements may have much to do with each other.
Anybody for Quick Change or What About Bob?
Love, love, LOVE Quick Change (especially the soundtrack), but I still don't think it makes my Murray top 5. One of the greatest "I hate NY" movies evah, though. Didn't like BOB because I found it to be Murray in ANNOYING mode (ala Man Who Knew Too Little).

Haven't seen LIFE AQUATIC (hopefully tomorrow night) and I do have a special place in my heart for MAD DOG AND GLORY because, despite the myriad of problems I have with the movie, I ultimately liked it and esepcially Murray a lot, and the scene where he's beating the crap out of DeNiro made me believe that Murray could, indeed, beat the crap out of DeNiro.

Oh YEAH! Roxanne was definitely a "stop and watch the movie" movie.
My favorite bit - the throwaway at the beginning where he pays for a local paper out of coin-op box, starts reading it, screams, puts more money in the box, puts it back, and walks away. It's in the first two minutes of the movie, and I just laughed and laughed.
Best GROUNDHOG DAY story I ever heard: My brother and his then girlfriend were seeing it in a theater, and before the movie started, they thought they spotted a friend walk past them right as the movie was starting. They just figured they'd see if it was him after the movie.
Cut to after the movie: They are walking out, and one of them suddenly remembers the friend, and how they forgot to look out for him after the movie like they planned. The other (and I can't remember who said what, but neither of them blinked an eye at the next, paraphrased statement) said "That's OK, we'll just try to remember to check if it's him tomorrow".
