Buffista Movies 3: Panned and Scanned

A place to talk about movies--Old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

"You see? THAT's what they want. Love, and a bit with a dog."

The Clooney/Damon Sox vs. Yankees thing helped redeem it for me. I will never say it was a great film, but for me, it was a watchable one, and the sort of mental cotton candy I needed at the end of a long day.

But the Julia Roberts thing? Criminally stupid.

Always Anti-fascist!

Bummer. And I still wish I could've gotten the "Eternal Sunshine" love. Oh, well.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

I saw The Aviator yesterday and dear god what a fantastic film. It's incredibly tight, the performances are dead-on, and the cinematography took my breath away, but not in a calling-attention-to-itself kind of way. (It's deliberately reminiscent of Citizen Kane, and the film is so riveting, and all of the elements are in such perfect balance that you never once think to yourself, "My, this is some find cinematograhpy I'm watching." But it is.)

Art Crawl!!!

I went to see Million Dollar Baby on Saturday.

You know, I wouldn't have chosen to go see it but a friend of mine had some bad news and I was visiting her to offer support and her friends were going to see this movie and invited her along.

Really not a good "cheering up" sort of movie.

I want to know what people who know something about boxing think of the idea that the world champion is also that world's dirtiest fighter -- I mean, how often can this woman clock somebody on the back of the head and get away with it?

My sister saw Million Dollar Baby on Friday, and she's not a boxing fan, and said it was fantastic.

Oh, it's not a bad movie -- just not the movie to see when you're trying to forget that you may have to have a beloved pet euthanized. . .what with the euthenasia at the end of the film.

The artist formerly associated with cupcakes.

So over the weekend, I took a friend of mine to see Phantom of the Opera. (She's been having a bad time lately, and needed something silly and over-the-top.) Near the end of the movie, when Christine is trying to Make Her Decision (insert dramatic cheese-o-riffic music here), my friend leans over and whispers in my ear "Pikachu! I choose you!"

Bwahahahaha!!

Cleolinda's recap of the same has gifted me with a shiny new tag.

I loved her recap. And the icons that people have made for it.

Oh, I need an animated LJ Phantom icon that has "Pikachu! I choose you!" scrolling across it. Pity I don't know how to make such things.

I’d be lying if I didn’t say that I miss them all tonight…

Cleolinda's recap of the same has gifted me with a shiny new tag.

And I have a shiny new icon with that phrase! So funny.
