I want to see the film credits read, "An asspull of Asimov."
Buffista Movies 3: Panned and Scanned
A place to talk about movies--Old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.
NY Times review of IRobot. The end of the article threw me into Futurama mode and now I really want to see it (Futurama).
Hey sexy mama...you wanna kill all humans?
So Ginger Snaps 2, as expected, is not as good as the first one. Pretty much all the complaints I've heard about it are valid. There's really no clever metaphor anymore; it's a straight-up horror flick now. That being said, it's still a fairly good horror flick, because rather than having a token main character surrounded by monster fodder, it has a bona fide protagonist who experiences such things as internal conflict and character development, and the supporting cast is not focused enough on so as to mark them as obvious monster fodder. But, as many have said, the ending...Christ. What. The fuck. Ever. I don't even want to whitefont an analysis of it; it's just so annoying. Regardless, the whole endeavor is almost worth it for this kickass exchange:
Brigitte: "I'm stronger."
Ginger: "Oh, really? That's not how I remember the last fifteen years of your life."
Brigitte: "That's how I remember the last fifteen minutes of yours."
Basically, I agree with what everyone told me: watch it to continue the story, but don't expect the quality of the original.
That was, indeed, the very best bit in GSII P-C.
Wanted to love the film. Couldn't.
On a different note. My best bud has an unwholesome love for Reign of Fire. I'm trying to develop a crush, but except for the pretty good cgi dragons, Gerard Butler's smile and Matthew Mc's WTF quotient, I'm not feeling it.
Besides the woobie love of Pete's Dragon, are there any other good dragon flicks out there? I'm in a medieval state of mind.
Dude, I've been wanting to see Reign of Fire forever. Cause, dragons.
Dragonheart isn't too bad.
And, um, I can't think of any other dragon movies, period, let alone good ones.
Random movie question: I just got two movies out of the library, one of which I think I'll watch tonight. I can't tell what kind of mood I'm in. So, Chinatown or Desk Set?
Desk Set.
Except I think I take it back -- Ocean's Eleven is on TV, and I think THAT might be the actual mood I'm in.

Chinatown - one of the greatest movies of the 70s. Desk Set is entirely lesser Hepburn/Tracy.
