Well, "traditional" sappy Christmas story message nearly always become creepy and off-putting if you think about what they're really saying. Whereas movies that start out intending to be sick and wrong tend not to disappoint.
Buffista Movies 3: Panned and Scanned
A place to talk about movies--Old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.
Case in point: Bad Santa
I think A Christmas Story is probably my favorite, though Bad Santa was certainly entertaining the other year.
Someone needs to make a film version of David Sedaris' The Santaland Diaries.
The Ref is my favorite Christmas movie. No exceptions.
This is me.
Still, I watch White Christmas every year and tear up in the same places. Every. Damn. Time.

I disagree.
I have yet to see The Ref or A Christmas Story.
A good Christmas movie is Die Hard 2.
P-C, you didn't like Bad Santa?
Nope.

I loved Elf, though.
The Ref is my favorite Christmas movie. Gonna go rent it now.
Ooh, I love The Ref.
In other news, I saw Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason this weekend, and was very glad I had only paid matinee price. There were some amusing bits, but there were also many, many better ways for me to spend that two hours. (And I say this as a great fan of the first movie.)
Am I the only reasonably intelligent person who didn't like The Ref? I thought it was annoying, even though I liked Denis Leary, which is why I'd rented it.
But maybe I was just in a pissy mood and need to see it again.
For the (late) record, I as soon as that first modern song was sung in Moulin Rouge, a joyous smile appeared on my face and then stayed there the whole time. Loved it.
