Buffista Movies 3: Panned and Scanned

A place to talk about movies--Old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

HP3 was definitely worth a few extra viewings in the theater (I saw it three or four times), and I'm also buying it on the way home tonight (beathen, Circuit City has it on sale today and tomorrow for $14.99; I don't know if Best Buy is price matching that). Now let's see if I can just get that DVD (and possibly a few CDs) and get out before having anything else catch my eye that's not a Christmas gift!

Sure I went over to the Dark Side, but just to pick up a few things.

Best Buy lowers the standard price in the first week of a release, so I know I'll get a compatible price. I also have a reward zone card that allows me to accrue points. Once I've spent about $150 I'll get a $5 gift certificate. Since I tend to buy at Best Buy often this is a pretty good deal. Thanks for the info about Circuit City, though.

My extra purchase tonight will be the Polar Express soundtrack because Josh Groban sings a song for the album. I love his music. He's coming to town March 1 and I'm going to buy front row seats if I can get them.

I'm trying to replace some of my old audio tapes with CDs, and I'm on the hunt for INXS's "Kick" album, as well as the cast recording for the revival of "Guys and Dolls" (I caught the relevant episode of PBS's "Broadway Musicals" show last night, and was singing along with the gamblers: I got the horse right here/His name is Paul Revere).

Oh I fully intend on purchasing HP3, but I just love that girl so much for remembering the release date and doing what she could to feed my obsession.

Having it rented to satisfy my immediate viewing needs, I may be able to hold the purchased copy until Christmas.

I wonder how DVD sales are going to hold up for HP3 considering the box office intake for the series has been declining with each movie.

I look more rad than Lutheranism

I got a handful of movies at the library this afternoon, on the theory that it's a long holiday weekend, ideal for loafing around in front of the DVD player (unless my friends opt for football, in which case I will have to beat them senseless and lock them in a broom closet). I forced myself to get movies I haven't seen before:

Shrek (yes, the first one; yes, I haven't seen it yet; shut up)
Moulin Rouge (see above)
Starsky and Hutch
a DVD with 4 Buster Keaton shorts on them (College, The Electric House, the Blacksmith, and [memfault]), because someone here was talking about Buster Keaton the other day, and I realized that I have never seen a Buster Keaton movie.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Judging by the trailer, Elektra looks better than Daredevil. Judging by Daredevil, that's no lofty goal.

I do hope that Bullseye comes round to visit.

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

Since they'll probably include the Hand backstory about her resurrection, I wonder whether the film will cast James Hong or Mako? It seems to be an unwritten rule that any American movie dealing with Asians has to star one or the other.

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

I hope you love Moulin Rouge, Teppy.
