Especially since From Here to Eternity shows that Jones's novels can be turned into good movies. Even great ones.

Buffista Movies 3: Panned and Scanned
A place to talk about movies--Old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.
What do folks hate about The Thin Red Line?
It's relentlessly boring, there's no narrative flow, the characters spout faux poetry as if it were profound, and I want those three hours back.
What P-C said. Also, it perpetuates the Noble Savage myth, or comes damn close.

OK, now I remember being uncomfortable with that.
it fetishized the local peoples as part of nature
With Nutty, P-C, and Steph L on disliking Thin Red Line for that reason. OTOH, I don't want my 3 hours back because there were a remarkable number of pretty men (Clooney! Cusack! Chaplin! Brody!) in the movie and I am shallow.
Was it here or in Natter that people were hating on Vincent Gallo? The latest from IMDB doesn't make him sound any more likeable.
Screw Gallo. What an ass.
Hating Gallo is a pan-thread sport. Tomorrow we're scheduled to hate him in the Firefly thread, Wednesday in the Music thread. There will be a schedule posted in Bureacracy soon....
Scifi Wire reports that Mira Nair has been offered HP5.
Ooh and Hero was #1?
That's great -- I guess I don't have to worry if it will still be in town this weekend!
Scifi Wire reports that Mira Nair has been offered HP5.
Wooo! Very exciting. No other living director has a higher batting average with me than Mira Nair. I've loved everything she's done.
That would be wicked cool if Mira Nair did HP5!
Saw The Apple on Saturday. Sweet Jesus. I'm highly tempted to run out and buy myself a copy, but I fear that nothing could top watching it with Polter-Cow, Tom Scola, Trudy, KristinT, Jessica, and Ethan. Disco Nazis! Microwaved babies! Oh, the costumes, and the dancing, and the utter ridiculosity!
