The Minearverse 3: The Network Is a Harsh Mistress
[NAFDA] "There will be an occasional happy, so that it might be crushed under the boot of the writer." From Zorro to Angel (including Wonderfalls and The Inside), this is where Buffistas come to anoint themselves in the bloodbath.
I'm trying to balance protectiveness of Tim's heart with my real annoyance over some of the criticism I'm reading (not here).
Sorry I snapped at you Consuela, it wasn't about you.
I'm whitefonting, I think this is stuff you should know if you're familiar with Tim's work, and he has said here that there will be arcs...
Yes, of course there will be consequences to things said and done in each episode that will leak into other episodes. There will be a cause and effect. The "monster of the week" format is there, each time, not always serial killers, but rapists and arsonists and really fucked up shit. But the characters grow a little each week, there are echoes from past eps in future eps as we go along, and sometimes Becky stands up for herself, and sometimes she doesn't, and sometimes Web is an evil prick, but mostly he gets shit done. And it's not for everyone, but it certainly doesn't SUCK. And it certainly isn't poorly written. And the fuckwads saying otherwise can come meet my tiny fist of rage.
Okay. Maybe that last thing was with Tim's heart gently wrapped in a blanket, gingerly placed on a hot water bottle, while I hum a lullaby.
Ew. Gross imagery. I should write for The Inside.
So the numbers aren't stellar. How did House premiere?
Found this about House: "The show premiered in November to fairly widespread critical praise but small audiences. Saddled with a weak lead-in ("The Rebel Billionaire"), "House" averaged only about 6.5 million viewers in its first two months on the air.
Since "American Idol" returned in mid-January, though, its ratings have skyrocketed. The past six episodes have averaged more than 14 million viewers -- reaching a high of 15.6 million on Tuesday (March 1) -- and raising "House's" season-long average by nearly 3 million."
When Allyson said,
I'm whitefonting, I think this is stuff you should know if you're familiar with Tim's work, and he has said here that there will be arcs...
I thought, "Oh, God, it's a Tim show. Someone's gonna have to die. But I don't want them to die. Because it's likely to not be any of the triangle, which means Adam or Katie, and that would make me sad, and now I'm just exhausting myself thinking about it."
Allyson's whitefont is not spoilery in the sense that it doesn't talk about specific things coming up. FYI.
I wasnt even sure if it needed the font du blanc.
Topic!Cindy,
No actual spoilers, just as I said "Paranoid Theories." Now if my theories are true, I don't know, I have no involvement with the show, nor have I read or seen anything other that what aired last night (aside from non-spoilery still photos on the net). If for some reason I'm right, then I guess it's actual spoilers. But if that's the case It's just one of those wild leaps that happens to be right.
Also, sorry for the delay in response, I had to get back to actual work temporarily.
Watching the episode now. Making notes here as a I go.
- "Any one of us could be next". Gulp. This is good TV writing. Suspense.
- Cat person. Heh. Sorry, that amused me. Does Tim know how many fandom people have cats? Do I even need to ask?
- Becky. Fucking up. From the beginning. Oh yes. Not looking people directly in the eyes much.
- Straight off the bat. Is Web Hanabal? Is he actually evil? What game is he playing? Why?
- Colour codes. SOMEBODY finally mocked it.
- "The city is big. Lonely. You buy a plant." (I moved to a big city two years ago. It's lonely. Last week I got a plant).
Hee. I liked this so very, very much. Things are unfolding, the story is set up, characters are being baked to simmer... I have many theories, but I'll reserve them for later fan wanking.
At the moment: very happy. Thank you, Tim.
I wasnt even sure if it needed the font du blanc.
I just said it, in case people were not highlighting in fear of "Well, after her tongue gets cut out in Episode 8, you'll be REALLY GLADD that Web is willing to just kill the son of a bitch."
onecoldcanadian:
The man that Rebecca sees in the mirror. Do I spy 'Paul Millander' from CSI fame!?
YES!
If I posted hurriedly last night and didn't adequately express how wonderful it is to have intelligent tv to look forward to, let me say that now. There are shows that I feel a fondness for, whose characters I might even be more or less invested in, but catching the odd episode of Angel in syndication just makes my breath catch with the cleverness, the intelligence of the dialogue and the crafting of action, the callback and foreshadowing in episodes, that I just don't find elsewhere. I'm expecting The Inside to be that kind of tv for me.
I missed the Allyson SO, dammit.
Topic!Cindy, No actual spoilers, just as I said "Paranoid Theories."
Thanks, Jade.

Yeah, there's been a lot of white fonting in this thread since last night. I keep checking to see if we're still NAFDA.
