The Minearverse 3: The Network Is a Harsh Mistress
[NAFDA] "There will be an occasional happy, so that it might be crushed under the boot of the writer." From Zorro to Angel (including Wonderfalls and The Inside), this is where Buffistas come to anoint themselves in the bloodbath.
The Angel shoutout was Wolfram Security.
Shit, I missed that.
I'm really liking Paul, which is cool since I don't know the actor at all and no one was ever talking about him much before now. But I like the conflict set up between him and Web, and I totally get the "existential battle for Rebecca's soul" thing Tim talked about so long ago.
I think the psychological thriller comparisons are apt; it felt like it could have been a movie.
I'm definitely in.
I like Rebecca, but I don't buy that she's tough -- not yet, anyway. When she was holding that gun, she looked like she didn't know how to use it, and she's so soft-spoken and fragile-looking.
Give her a little time, DX. She's really got a thing. Has a nice one-take monlogue near the end of the third ep, the screen is hers. Huge learning curve. Huge. Girl was a math major at some expensive uni. She's wicked smart.
Okay, so my mom just called me from Georgia. Visiting my aunt and uncle. I was just like, "this isn't television fit for you people!"
Right now, I'm seeing Rebecca as being more of a pawn between Web and Bruce Campbell dude. (What's his name again?) I tuned in because it was Tim's show, but aftter the scene between Web and..other guy, it hooked me on its own merit, rather than Buffista loyalty.
I'm so very, very into this.
I also laughed out loud at, "You think I'm scary?"
That was a good ride. For the shallow: Katie looks fab as a redhead. And I continue to adore Adam Baldwin.
What was computer guy's name? He was in the opening credits, right? Liked him.
I love the fact that she wasn't in on Webb's little plan. I thought she was, and that was fine, but then... yeah, that was just so very bad. That it was good.
Not that impressed with Rebecca at this point
No, but I'm wondering how much of that is RN and how much is the fact that Rebecca is being shown as being pretty tightly wound. She's not showing a lot of affect because she's tense as hell and under the gun to prove herself. Some people get loud, some people get very quiet. I'm going with she's the quiet type because that's what allowed her to escape from her captor. It worked then, so she hasn't abandoned it.
From a narrative standpoint, I thought that the focus on Rebecca was a good idea, since she's as new to Web and the others as we are.
So we now know that Paul (as in St. Paul) is conscience guy. Alvarez and now Rebecca are the 'get inside the bad guy's head' people. It'll be interesting to see what Mel and Danny's deals are.

That seems right. She's never been in the field before, right?
The nice thing about a rookie lead (meaning rookie agent), she gets to have special talent, be the star, and fuck up ALL THE TIME. 'cause, she would, you know?
It's Robert Kral, tiggy.
thanks!
