Well, we may not have parted on the best of terms. I realize certain words were exchanged. Also, certain... bullets. But that's air through the engine. It's past. We're business people.

Wait, is this real-world child support, where the money goes to buy food for the kids, or MRA fantasyland child support where the women just buy Ferraris and cocaine? -Jessica

I asked first if it is okay to post this, I was worried about giving away too much, but he says I'm right. And that's a rare occurance.

This is less info than you'll get in other reviews, I bet, so I think it's all very NAFDA safe.

Rebecca is sort of tabula rasa. Her backstory is that she was kidnapped when she was 10 years old, and held captive for a year before escaping. No one knows what sort of hell she went through, she doesn't discuss it. She changed her name, even. Her kidnapper was never caught.

So, our girl sort of has trouble connecting on a personal level. It's an odd kind of aspergers in a way. She's not so much disassociative in that she's avoiding connection, it's just that this particular piece of her was lost, or never got the chance to grow.

So it's easy for her to slip into someone else's skin, to put on other people's emotions. She can think about how someone felt, the way they thought, in a logical way, but can't really engage with her own heart.

So her story will sort of seep out like a slow leak over time, and I think her journey is sort of going to be learning to connect, figuring out who she is and not just trying on the masks of victims/psychopaths and going through the motions of their psyches.

She's not little girl lost in any sort of pathetic way. She's strong and smart. I think the way she plays off Web is brilliant. I think he's the first person who's been able to manipulate her since she was a little kid, and that causes her to trip a little, in surprise. And he's such a two-way mirror. You can stare at him all day and see yourself reflected back in some warped, infuriating way, but as much as you press your nose to the glass, you can't see him behind it at all. He's like the Great and Powerful Oz, pulling all the strings behind the curtain. But when you pull back the curtain, there's no one there.

Am I being infuriating? Maybe. You'll just have to watch. Your Opinion of Rebecca May Vary.

Not having has never been the thing I've regretted most in my life. Not trying is.

I think you just closed the sale for me, Allyson..

Those Fox Marketing people really SHOULD listen to you.

Awww.

The thing that resonated with me was the sort of lost feeling in my early twenties, when I didn't know who I was and wasn't sure where I was going, but still managed to show up to work on time (mostly) in the morning. I think I tried on a lot of different Allysons before I found the one that fit.

Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

The kidnapping was Jane E.'s contribution, and she is very proud of it. That's pretty much the only spoiler-y stuff I know, and I only know it because she was so tickled to have come up with the idea and that Tim dug it that she wanted to share that fact!

Now let us crush something soft and watch it fountain blood. That is a girlish thing to want to do, yes?

I love it. And you say she has a pink kitchen?

Kristen - May 02, 2005 9:59:46 am PDT #6365 of 10001

There is no pink kitchen!

(No matter how much Allyson might wish otherwise.)

And you say she has a pink kitchen?

I wish. I got hollered at. "It's not about pink kitchens and fluffy dogs!"

"Blah! BLAH BLAH BLAH!"

I still think when she gets around to painting her place, the kitchen will be pink. And that she'd of course have a big English Mastiff. And his name would be Bill. But he wouldn't have any primordial mysogyny. Because that's DUMB.

"Cry havoc and let slip the boobs of war!" -- Miracleman

I suspect The Inside will be exactly the kind of show I can't not watch, but exactly the kind of show that will make me curse my weakness during the ensuing 3 a.m. insomniac existential crisisathon.

or the kind of show that you watch because it's so good, but it creeps you out at night so that you can't sleep, ut you can't not watch it.

I need to go out to the net and recruit. But I'm too lazy.

Hey! LURKERS! You there. Come on out and tell me if you're convinced. You gonna watch? Buy the lunchbox? Why or why not?
