My biggest problem with the whole "parents, God and Ayn Rand" thing is... well, actually, I have a two-fold problem with it.
Um, it's the time-honored joke about the serial comma.
The question is, is it right to say "I'd like to thank Tom, Dick, and Harry" or to say "I'd like to thank Tom, Dick and Harry". Some organizations do it one way, some the other. The "parents... Rand" phrase is the standard example of why the second comma (known as the serial comma) is important.
