Speaking of which, if one, hypothetically, didn't own any XTC albums, which album, hypothetically, would you all recommend one buy first? I kind of got overwhelmed by the options. I mean, one could kind of get overwhelmed.
Well, Tim's favorite album (and mine) is English Settlement. The most recent (and I guess, most like the WF theme song), is Wasp Star. Either of those would work nicely as an introductory album. They've had so many stages in their development that it's hard to say - even among the fans, there are many of us that can't stand certain albums/phases (for example early "punk-pop" XTC circa White Music [first album] is not my favorite phase).
Obligatory XTC website plug: Chalkhills is your one-stop source for all things XTC.
ETA - heh. From the FAQ on Chalkhills, which I haven't read in forever since I've been on the mailing list since 1996 [/brag]:
12. What recordings should a new XTC-er buy?
All of them.
t briefly appears
"Witch" reference
It's
Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
I have decided that all literary references are either the Bible or Shakespeare, and all pop culture references are either
Holy Grail
or
The Princess Bride.
It seems like a safe assumption.
t back to being Not Here
I have decided that all literary references are either the Bible or Shakespeare, and all pop culture references are either Holy Grail or The Princess Bride.
Pretty close, though The Simpsons probably has a lock on pop cultural ubiquity as well.
The Godfather, I hear, is something I'm supposed to get references from.
At least Tom Hanks said so to Meg Ryan inthe remake about a book shop that was one big ad for AOL.
The Godfather, I hear, is something I'm supposed to get references from.
And Apocolypse Now. The funniest riff on it I've seen must have been Apocalypse Cow.
I was watching Law & Order on TNT the other day and the prosecutors interviewed an older, paunchy mob boss in an orange grove. Was kind of surprised L&O would do that, but it just shows how much Godfather saturates.
"This one time, I will allow you to ask about my affairs."
What? Mob movies are Obsession #4.
To wit:
"I'm some fuckin' clown to you? Do I *amuse* you? Am I funny? Is that it?"
Joe Pesci, Goodfellas.
And Apocolypse Now. The funniest riff on it I've seen must have been Apocalypse Cow.
The best parody would have to be Porklips Now, brought to you by Ernie Fosselius, the man behind Hardware Wars.
It's Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
See, and I've even seen it. Ah, well.
The Godfather, I hear, is something I'm supposed to get references from.
Just last month, I told Polgara to leave the gun and take the cannoli.
She knew it was a movie reference. She just wasn't sure what movie it was from.
