I was watching Law & Order on TNT the other day and the prosecutors interviewed an older, paunchy mob boss in an orange grove. Was kind of surprised L&O would do that, but it just shows how much Godfather saturates.
The Minearverse 3: The Network Is a Harsh Mistress
[NAFDA] "There will be an occasional happy, so that it might be crushed under the boot of the writer." From Zorro to Angel (including Wonderfalls and The Inside), this is where Buffistas come to anoint themselves in the bloodbath.
"This one time, I will allow you to ask about my affairs." What? Mob movies are Obsession #4. To wit: "I'm some fuckin' clown to you? Do I *amuse* you? Am I funny? Is that it?" Joe Pesci, Goodfellas.
And Apocolypse Now. The funniest riff on it I've seen must have been Apocalypse Cow.
The best parody would have to be Porklips Now, brought to you by Ernie Fosselius, the man behind Hardware Wars.
It's Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
See, and I've even seen it. Ah, well.
The Godfather, I hear, is something I'm supposed to get references from.
Just last month, I told Polgara to leave the gun and take the cannoli.
She knew it was a movie reference. She just wasn't sure what movie it was from.
Cool.

And when you told me what it was from, I realized it was only familiar because of You've Got Mail. :-D
Hearing stuff like that makes me sad. But then, not everyone has a thing about The Thing...my mom read the Valachi Papers to entertain herself one summer...I come by it honestly.

Polgara, are ya sure you grew up where you claim? Scott's going to be so disappointed in you.
I hate mob movies, avoid them like the plague. I made an exception for The Untouchables (Sean, mmmmm), Donnie Brasco (Johnny, mmmmm), and The Knockaround Guys (Seth, not so much "mmmm", but still a favorite), but otherwise, blech.
