The Minearverse 3: The Network Is a Harsh Mistress
[NAFDA] "There will be an occasional happy, so that it might be crushed under the boot of the writer." From Zorro to Angel (including Wonderfalls and The Inside), this is where Buffistas come to anoint themselves in the bloodbath.
That should make for an interesting transcript.
Hee! Actually, I think Hebrew is very pretty visually, but I wouldn't get any meaning from it either. I like having a second language in the show, but imagine it would be even more fun to understand, knowing that not everyone would. This is a long-winded way to say how lucky those bilingual Chinese/English viewers are. Too bad for me that it's not Russian/English!
Also, I'm not sure if I ever posted with you before, so a very belated welcome.
Aww... thanks (belatedly)! I think you're right that we've never been around a thread at the same time. Dang time zones! I'm always very impressed that you can remember each person you've posted with before so that you can welcome all the newbies. Actually, that shouldn't surprise me at all given how obviously superior your memory is to my crappy one. But it's still very classy and part of what makes you loved immediately, even by those who haven't been around the wonder of Nilly for years. Okay, that sounds rather gushy, and yet somehow I'm thinking it's okay because you're Nilly and gushing seems to be forgiven in such circumstances.
Aw, man! Do you have the CD? Isn't it great? "Wish I" is like the happiest song ever.
I actually don't, but it's now on my list. I think I may use some of my birthday money for it. Yes, I still get birthday money. Shut up. Broadening my music library is one of the things I can credit to Wonderfalls. Speaking of which, if one, hypothetically, didn't own any XTC albums, which album, hypothetically, would you all recommend one buy first? I kind of got overwhelmed by the options. I mean,
one could kind of get overwhelmed.

It's like my eyes see the word "Nilly" and send a message to my brain to squee. Where does she get her power? There have to be goat sacrifices involved.

If you're buying Wonderfalls-related CDs, I suggest the Frou Frou over the Jem. It's amazinger.
It's amazinger.
Hee! It might not need to be an "or" thing so much as an "and" thing. But thank you muchly for the advice! If it does come down to picking and choosing, it will come in handy.
If anyone cares, NF just posted in the Firefly OB. Link is in the Firefly thread. This has been a public service announcement.
Yep! No matter how much we torture his image.
ellemarie ::blush::
And just when I think I can't blush more, there comes P-C. You guys! That's too much, really.

The nice thing about it, to me, is that people here actually do swear more in languages that aren't Hebrew. Lots of swear words come from Arabic, and lots of them from English, too. It's much more likely to hear a random person say "shit" than the equivalent Hebrew word, for example (not everywhere or by everybody, but it's definitely widespread enough).
Tamara, thanks for posting that - I don't keep up with the "Firefly" thread (because I still haven't finished watching all the episodes), so I would have missed that lovely post from him without your heads-up.

Well, Tim's favorite album (and mine) is English Settlement. The most recent (and I guess, most like the WF theme song), is Wasp Star. Either of those would work nicely as an introductory album. They've had so many stages in their development that it's hard to say - even among the fans, there are many of us that can't stand certain albums/phases (for example early "punk-pop" XTC circa White Music [first album] is not my favorite phase).
Obligatory XTC website plug: Chalkhills is your one-stop source for all things XTC.
ETA - heh. From the FAQ on Chalkhills, which I haven't read in forever since I've been on the mailing list since 1996 [/brag]:
12. What recordings should a new XTC-er buy?
All of them.
t briefly appears
"Witch" reference
It's
Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
I have decided that all literary references are either the Bible or Shakespeare, and all pop culture references are either
Holy Grail
or
The Princess Bride.
It seems like a safe assumption.
