The Minearverse 3: The Network Is a Harsh Mistress

[NAFDA] "There will be an occasional happy, so that it might be crushed under the boot of the writer." From Zorro to Angel (including Wonderfalls and The Inside), this is where Buffistas come to anoint themselves in the bloodbath.

Apart from sports, "my secret favorite thing on earth is ketchup. I will put ketchup on anything. But it has to be Heinz." - my husband, Michael Vartan

I am one of the ones who is unhappy with Marti, and honestly, I think she brought a lot of the Point Pleasant-esque stuff to Buffy, which often is what made me unhappy with her. However, that said, I watch Point Pleasant. It's TERRIBLE. But I watch it all the same, and enjoy doing so, for the same reasons that my roommate enjoys watching Passions. Point Pleasant, though, is prettier than Passions, so I think I win. And I think Elisabeth Harnois and Grant Show are the best actors on there, so I think it's unfair to critique her harshly. There are way worthier targets. So, it kind of makes me sad when people wish for it to be cancelled. I mean, they could just not watch, and I'd totally understand, but actively wishing it were cancelled makes me sad, because I'd lose a few laughs a week. I mean, I'd get over it, but still.

What is even happening?

I don't think I've ever actively wished a show would get canned--not since I found fandom, and probably not even before. Another World? Homicide? Freaks and Geeks? (I still have a huge hate-on for NBC). They were mine, long before active participation in fandom, and they hurt more than either Firefly or Freaks and Geeks (although it may have been time for Homicide to go, I wasn't ready for it).

What is even happening?

I lied. The Swan. The Swan and many of the more exploitative reality shows. I have not only wished but nearly prayed for them to get the ax.

The Swan is perfectly understandable, Cindy, and the exception to the rule.

Nana korobi, ya oki. (Fall down seven times, stand up eight.) ~Yuzuru Hanyu/Japanese proverb

prayed for them to get the ax.

Wouldn't help. The show went under the knife over and over again and it couldn't even have the decency to bleed to death.

Wait, is this real-world child support, where the money goes to buy food for the kids, or MRA fantasyland child support where the women just buy Ferraris and cocaine? -Jessica

I love the Swan. It's pure porn, the ugliest parts of humanity all wrapped up in the most insipid package of human waste, EVAH. They should combine it with Fear Factor and have the participants eat live worms in order to win liposuction to make it even more self-degrading.

Everytime I see it, I feel better about myself and realize that I do, in fact, have self-esteem.

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

I wanted Tru Calling to get cancelled so I wouldn't have to watch it anymore.

I'm downloading the second season premiere right now. We'll see if they were really improving tomorrow.

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

I too prayed for The Swan and all of Fox's Surprise! He's Actually Gay! reality shows to die fiery deaths that took their creators with them. But as far as fiction goes, I don't think I've ever rooted that strongly for anything to be cancelled, figuring that they're not destroying real people's lives and someone somewhere must enjoy them.

Just low blood sugar. Ate a Snickers. Thanks for coming.

Rather funny and kind of sad thread at Whedonesque that started off as "vote to save Point Pleasant!" then got derailed into "PP is godawful and totally needs to be cancelled," "I've voted for Veronica Mars instead," "Me, too!"

Yeah, I followed a "save PP" link from Buffy News, and voted for Veronica Mars instead. Other than the fact that I'm watching it, I can't understand why the ratings for VM suck the way they do. Even with a guest spot by Alyson Hannigan, the ratings still sucked. Great show, though.

I can't understand it either. for the past couple of weeks i've been pimping the hell out of it. if it gets canned it will be akin to the heartbreak i felt when Wonderfalls was cancelled.
