Can't you do the same thing to the empty ball socket?
I don't think it's the same sort of pain. Of course, you could take steps to make sure it never heals, but I think you've removed the fun bits.

[NAFDA] "There will be an occasional happy, so that it might be crushed under the boot of the writer." From Zorro to Angel (including Wonderfalls and The Inside), this is where Buffistas come to anoint themselves in the bloodbath.

Silly me. I was thinking balls attached to body, in Tupperware.
So Chris, you don't mind if random strangers have you all fitted out in vacuum-sealed codpieces, do ya?
See - a real buffistas welcome. 30 minutes here and we are discussing your intimate parts.
That spawned the notion that this could be what FOX had in mind all along, and there I went.
It seems that FOX are vindictive bastards, though. How else to explain their futzing with FUTURAMA, which was getting great ratings as a SIMPSONS follow-up, and which it's rumored that Matt Groening basically had to blackmail them into letting him make (and therefore FOX resented the show's very existence).

Heh. This whole thing is reminding me of the punctured testicle discussion that was triggered by that S4 Angel episode. Ahhh, good times, good times.
Having known my intimate parts for many years, I'm not surprised that they're worthy of recognition here.
I also hoped that praising the show to the skies -- which I did, sight unseen, on faith -- would get people interested enough to look into it.
I don't know. When I got the link you sent me this morning, my immediate reaction (after the name misspelling issue) was one of concern.
On one hand, any press is good press, right? On the other, if this is the first time your readers have heard of "The Inside" and they're hearing about it in the same breath as "doomed" and "cancellation," is that really going to make them want to watch?
I guess we'll have to wait and see. I have hope for this one and I never had any real hope for either FF or WF.

Just don't forget to burp the seal to maintain freshness. We don't want you to get stale balls.

Personally? I'm waiting to see when it is aired to determine what hopes I have for it to survive. If it's Friday? I'm beyond skeptical. If it's up against a big ratings show? Same thing.
Part of the concern may be because, when all is said and done, it wasn't a "Go watch 'The Inside'!" column and wasn't really meant to be.
My first thought when I heard about the new show, other than wondering what kind of photos of Mr. Minear FOX execs must have hanging over him, was "might as well go buy www.savetheinside.com now, avoid the rush." My next thought was, "that's a column..."
My third thought was, "mmm, peanut butter," but that's a different story.
