[NAFDA] "There will be an occasional happy, so that it might be crushed under the boot of the writer." From Zorro to Angel (including Wonderfalls and The Inside), this is where Buffistas come to anoint themselves in the bloodbath.
(Stipulated: there are individuals, both sexes, who prefer to live alone. This is racially self-correcting.)
Sorry, but why is this is causing explosions? "Self-correcting" means, if this behavior spreads in each generation, we wind up extinct. Biologically, that's a problem. But since those who prefer to be alone are a lot less likely to have children, the problem fixes itself.
It's a side note, not a moral judgment.

Uh, single parents aren't living alone -- they are living with their kid. No partner isn't the same as alone.

My mother and I could be participants in a study of the phenomenon. The genetically incapable of co-habitation. Though, since I am unlikely to spawn, it would be a very limited study.
