Also, we caption it, so we're a few weeks ahead and see the scripts along with the episodes--he stays plenty cranky and mean for at least the next six eps.

The Minearverse 3: The Network Is a Harsh Mistress
[NAFDA] "There will be an occasional happy, so that it might be crushed under the boot of the writer." From Zorro to Angel (including Wonderfalls and The Inside), this is where Buffistas come to anoint themselves in the bloodbath.
It's a ribbed cane, for his pleasure.
Damn it, Allyson. You made me snort wine.
OK, mental image. Not going anywhere.
The issue with House is that while I find the assholetastic lead character sort of entertaining to watch, the supporting characters are barely more than stereotypes. Also the medical leaps? Ludicrous. At least ER tries somewhat to approximate authenticity. Sort of.
I like House, but I think all the serial shows I watch have deadened me to procedurals. It just seems too damn predictable. Guy with mysterious disease - misdiagnose, misdiagnose, misdiagnose - stumble on to actual diagnosis - cure with a simple outpatient procedure or tomato juice.
I'll keep watching though.
I like that House himself is still unlikeable.

This is the very annoying part of the show. But I like the House character.
And I didn't care about headache girl. She gave me a headache.Oh yeah, I don't care about any of them. But I usually don't care about characters, so I didn't expect to. Which may be an advantage with this show.
I'm not convinced that the network screwed it up because I don't know what was so great about the pilot. I mean, I can see what they may have meddled with, but I don't know that it mattered. Hugh Laurie entertains me; everything else is forgettable.
I do keep wondering if Laurie got stubble-maintenance tips from Denisof.
I'd probably watch it if it wasn't a @#!$ medical show, just because I hear Laurie does a great job.
However, I kind of hate medical shows, and have realized I'd rather pull my own teeth than watch them.
I must be living in a vacuum. I haven't even heard of House.
But I usually don't care about characters
Says the woman who used the phrase "poor sad Angel" countless times. ;-}

There's totally a joke about vacuums and houses to be made here. Someone make it.
Says the woman who used the phrase "poor sad Angel" countless times.
But I didn't want him to not be sad. Obviously, I care about characters in the sense that I'm interested in what happens to them, but as a rule I'm not personally invested in their happiness, and don't need to like them or wish them well in order to enjoy a story. Some people do.
