The Minearverse 3: The Network Is a Harsh Mistress

[NAFDA] "There will be an occasional happy, so that it might be crushed under the boot of the writer." From Zorro to Angel (including Wonderfalls and The Inside), this is where Buffistas come to anoint themselves in the bloodbath.

Someone told me I could convert my Laserdiscs to DVD. I might look into that someday.

Yes, I believed George Lucas when he said it was the last time I could buy the original trilogy.

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

Yes, I believed George Lucas when he said it was the last time I could buy the original trilogy.

Well, he wasn't lying, really.

Never said he was. But I know people who, at the time, thought it was a bullshit marketing ploy.

Now they weep at the not-so-special editions.

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

There was no emotional pull, just annoyance with Jar Jar and mini-Vader.

Oh, I'd say there was emotional pull. In two hours Jar Jar managed to inspire a depth of loathing in me that it took Andrew a season and a half of Buffy episodes to rival.

GS: If you had to choose between kicking evil in the head or the behind, which would you choose, and why? Minsc: I'm not sure I understand the question. I have two feet, do I not? You do not take a small plate when the feast of evil welcomes seconds.

Which is the special edition?

The 1997 theatrical release.

Did they cut some of C3PO and R2D2 wandering through the desert?

I don't think so.

Also, was the scene where Leia makes the recording always right at the beginning?

I'm pretty sure it's always been space battle. Stormtroopers and Vader board the ship. Leia makes recording. 3PO and R2 take escape pod, which is what's in the SE and the DVDs.

Did they futz with the bar scene (other than the Guido/Han shooting bit)?

Don't think so.

What is even happening?

You guys all rock. Thanks for the link, Kristen.

Nutty, I'll probably take you up on that offer.

Thanks for the info., Kalshane (and I was sorry to read about your accident--if you're still sore tomorrow, see your doc).

Never said he was. But I know people who, at the time, thought it was a bullshit marketing ploy.

Now they weep at the not-so-special editions.

Like me, for example. I didn't bother. I figured it was nonsense.

All is well that ends in pizza.

Did they futz with the bar scene (other than the Guido/Han shooting bit)?

Don't think so.

I can't recall, but wasn't there some talk about the aliens in the cantina being altered and added to? I might be imagining that. I have not seen the new versions.

The status is NOT quo.

FWIW, on the Star Wars documentary (which was really good and gives a ton of great backstory and outtakes, btw), Lucas said the reason he made all the changes was because he finally had the resources to make the originals the way he would have if money and technology had been available back then.

Kristen - Sep 30, 2004 4:08:31 pm PDT #2455 of 10001

Is it wrong to be profoundly greatful he had limited money and technology?

The status is NOT quo.

Definitely not, Kristen. Just something he said.
