Art Crawl!!!

Isn't it cute that they're both being remade?

What is even happening?

Oh, I'd always imagined I'd throw down for Telly, but Ving might just work.

Who/what is Kolchak? The references escapes me, completely, but I'm seeing it mentioned quite a bit, and now I'm starting to care, despite myself.

Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

Check this out, Cindy. [link]

"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

I'm now amused by the thought of people who only know Darren McGavin from A CHRISTMAS STORY encountering Kolchak.

We're very stretchy. - Connie Neil

The Night Stalker is great cheesy fun! I remember the ep with the Spanish Moss monster, set in New Orleans. Very creepifying.

Thanks, Robin. I remember the "Night Stalker" title, but I don't think I've ever seen either the films or the series. Sounds sort of fun, though.

"Mister Spock is on his fanny, sir. Reports heavy damage."

I'm sorry, didn't we just have 10 years of Kolchack the Night Stalker? I mean, I think David Duchovny is better looking (especially in Armani) than Darren McGavin, but -- marked similarities of concept.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

I loved The Night Stalker. The first two TV movies were the best. Very dark and noir and scary. Some of the episodes were cheesy, but I remember the doppelganger episode disturbing me a lot. It was - as Nutty notes- one of the immediate inspirations for X-Files, but the tone was very different. McGavin was perfect as the seedy, abrasive reporter.

Yes, indeed. Hard boiled, muckraking neo-noir vs. conspiracy theory drama. The monster of the week X-Files were closer to TNS than any of the myth-arc elements.

Right. Not to reveal my XF purism, but I first heard of Kolchak in a review of the first season of XF, when it was all dark and glum and incredibly cheap effects. I think Sci Fi ran old Kolchak episodes for a short while in the middle 90s, but I only ever saw one or two of them.
