There's an excellent review of the Season Five DVDs at dvdverdict.com--they give Angel one of their rare "jury verdicts," meaning more than one of their critics chimes in on the review. This one is good because the two secondary reviewers take a look at the series as a whole; the final reviewer calls Angel "the Ultimate Noir TV Series."

FCC rejects complaint involving 'Angel':
WASHINGTON (AP) -- A love scene from the canceled TV show "Angel" that showed a female character turning into a vampire and biting her partner's neck did not overstep federal indecency rules, the Federal Communications Commission ruled Friday... The episode aired at 9 p.m. EST on November 19, 2003.
That would make it "Destiny". Not sure why this one was chosen from the many many moments during the five seasons which riled someone's sensibilities.
I suspect it was a case of, "Ooh, that's hot--it must be banned."
The complaint was filed with DC's WB affiliate.
I thought we were a bit more progressive than that.

Maybe it came from the White House. After all, wouldn't want the give the girls any ideas about naughty behavior.
I'm starting to watch my S5 dvds, and wishing they had cast a different actress as Eve, since the part had so much potential that the actress didn't deliver on, when it hit me that, if she weren't already busy, Amy Acker would have been really good in the role.
Yeah, so would Stephanie Romanov. Also? Sara(h?) Brown(e?) who played the original Carly Manning on General Hospital. That role was written for her, and it is likely that nobody who could have done anything about it had any idea.
As much as I adore SR, I think she would have been wrong for the role, which to me seemed like it was supposed to be this tiny cute little chick who looked like she's be easy to snap like a twig, who was a total bad ass on the inside, who could have been either good or evil or both.
Playing Devil's Advocate (kind of appropriate, no?), if it had been Lilah instead of Eve would we have bought the heroes being able to outwit her and keep her in the dark about stuff?
Plus, based on "Home," I don't think her loyalty to the Senior Partners could believably be called into question.
I saw "Orpheus" as a rerun last night. It's one of the few Angel episodes I hadn't seen before, so it made me extra-happy.
I'd forgotten how good VK was by the latter part of S4.
I thought we were a bit more progressive than that.
We are, but the people who voluteer for the conservative watchdog groups aren't. (I think most indecency complaints are the result of organized effort, not people who are genuinely shocked.)
