I've read Buffy/Giles fic I loved. It was by yahtzee, I think.
Teacher/student does squick me, so it takes effort for it to work. Most Snape/insert-student-here fic, which is ridiculously common in HP fandom, for example, bugs the shit out of me. But I've read some pretty good long-post-school Snape/Hermione fic. I think it works if they've been long enough apart from each other that the old roles of student/teacher have dissipated, and the relationship can begin again.
Anya/Giles would have rocked, and that's way May/December.
Yeah, but in a way totally contrary to appearance. She's older than Giles by a greater factor than Angel was compared to Buffy. (And way eviler, to boot.)

This explains much. The woman was able to write Angel/Cordelia fic which, while not to my taste, got past my "Burn the writer!" reaction to such stories.
Eh, when she's on, she's on, but I've never much cared for her Gunn or Wesley.
But then, we have established that I'm a picky, picky human.
(Her Yuletide Jeeves and Wooster fic is keen--it loses the tone a little in the middle, gets saggy, but other than that section, manages to remain quite close in tone to the books.)
To be quite frank, (and I'm aware that this does not seem to be the prevailing opinion w/in fandoms), I'm not a big fan of non-canon relationships in fanfiction. I dunno why, it usually feels forced. And I think Buffy/Giles will always squick me no matter what, but I'd prefer it to the Immortal and Buffy (just because that whole episode was lame and should never have happened except for the sub-plot w/ the Burkles).
I've found that good unconventional/non-canon fic is usually (nine times out of ten) better than good conventional/canon fic, simply because the author has fewer shortcuts available, yet more room to play.
(Though *cough* I do keep forgetting that TECHNICALLY, Buffy/Faith's not canon...)
Hmm...good point. I've only read a smattering of non-canon fic. A lot of it felt, like I said, forced and just not what I was looking for.

Your Buffy/Faith reads like canon. I think that's what I need for non-canon fic--that it works off of something well established in the canon.

And don't forget "Ciao!"
The only lengthy piece of fic I ever read was Cicatrix (sp?), which rocked something fierce. Verrry dark, though.
Buffy/Giles is a HUGE squick for me. Way way way more than Batman/Robin (whichever Robin you choose).
I think it’s sexism, really. It’s kind of like the way I have no problem with Lex/Clark, but the idea of Lex/Chloe is unpleasant.
As it played out, he was more like a stepfather that just never had a Relationship with her mother, I think.
They had sex. On the hood of a police car. TWICE (sorry, just watched Earshot with a friend this weekend)
