Angel 5: Is That It? Am I Done?

[NAFDA] This is where we talk about the show! Anything that's aired in the US (including promos) is fair game. No spoilers though -- if you post one by accident, an admin will delete it.

"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

I loved Numero Cinco, but to me it felt more like a short story set in the Angelverse than a chapter in the novel that was AtS. And I'm a novel girl.

Oh definitely. Had it come any later in the season, I'm not sure I would have loved it quite so much (once things started getting arc-y I mean). But as it was - MWAH!

Take your fingers off it, don't you dare touch it, you know it don't belong to you, to you...

My favorite is "Objects in Restless Gas. With Feeling."

Hmm...how about "Hush, we're Becoming Objects in Restless Gas that makes you Smile (Time) and does Not Fade Away. With Feeling.

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

I'd pick "Prophecy Girl" as best hour of TV ever. With "Innocence," "Once More, With Feeling," "Rm w/a Vu" and "Reunion" all duking it out for second place depending on my mood.

While not my favorites per se, the strongest emotional reactions I've had have been to "The Body" (weeping uncontrollably) and "Smile Time" (laughing uncontrollably).

Days shrink and grow cold, sunlight through leaves is my song. Winter is long.

"The Cautionary Tale of Numero Cinco"--the single greatest hour of television ever produced.

???

everything that was strange and magical about los luchadores.

???

If there was an episode that season I came close to hating, No. 5 had to be it. I just didn't get it. I have no magic.

I can't pick A favorite, or even five favorites, among the three series. There were so many wonderful eps, so many wonderful moments in meh eps, so many meh eps in wonderful arcs...

TV will not see its like again, I'm thinking.

Ficht nicht mit Der Raketemensch!

Victor is me - I would far rather have seen a season of Los Bros Numeros than the last season of Angel. Although he's not me, because I love all the btvs Joss Stunt eps - Hush/Restless/The Body/OMWF - more.

Ficht nicht mit Der Raketemensch!

Although the single best hour of TV I've ever seen was, without doubt, the Sopranos episode Long Term Parking.

What is even happening?

IIRC (and I was at UNC, which is in the same conference, in 1985), it was right after the Celtics drafted him. As in, he took the cocaine that night while celebrating the draft.
Yes. I think this is the way it happened. So sad. Also? It probably helped keep me from ever trying it, although I was fairly well behaved, anyhow. It just scared the heck out of me, that a young, athletic man could die so easily from using it.

For 2005, there is the part of Angel season five that aired first in 2004--I'm having a hard time wrapping my mind around the concept of Enterprise, Andromeda or Stargate SG-1 with a Hugo. If you had a vote, which of those Angel episodes would you nominate?

Mikey, do you need things that aired from September to December, 2003, or from January to May of 2004? I'm just asking because The Cautionary Tale of Numero Cinco aired November 5, 2003, and I can't make out if y'all are just talking about it out of love, or for the Hugos.

Assuming you want episodes from the calendar year of 2004, I think I would choose either Origin, or Smile Time, although as I review the list, other episodes are screaming, "Pick me! Pick me!"

Ficht nicht mit Der Raketemensch!

You're Welcome stands out as the best of S5, although it depends on knowing the backstory.

I bop to Wittgenstein. -- Nutty

This was close to what I was going to say, except I was going to phrase it as "Firefly didn't stop calling - somebody put a bullet in his head".

Well, I don't like to think of Firefly as completely dead yet, which the bullet in the head metaphor suggests. But it's like that.

Battlestar Galactica - the mini-series?

They're broadcasting a full series of around-an-hour-long episodes in the UK. (Surely they're in the US soon/now/before?) They'd be safely in the length requirement. And they're very good-- I didn't catch the mini-series, but I'm picking up the BSG love quite quickly.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

(Surely they're in the US soon/now/before?)

No, not for a couple weeks.

It is pretty good, but I'm not liking what they're doing with Baltar in the last few eps.
