I've seen several comments that the finale of Angel could lead into the "Fray" universe. Unfortunately I never read the comics, and a quick Googling turned up only half a dozen not very useful websites.
I guess I'll spoiler this in case Fray counts a spoiler material:
I get that Melaka Fray is a Slayer in the 26th century and that something's happened to most of the vampire/demon population, but is there anything more about this universe I should know to see the tie-ins? I know the Fray axe appeared in Chosen.
What else of import was shown/revealed/hinted at in the comics?
Maytree:
The history of Fray is this: many years ago (post-Buffy, pre-Fray by a lot) there were demons on the earth with humans, and the slayer defended against them. Finally, there was a great battle, with a great slayer and her friends defending the earth. When the dust cleared, the slayer and humans had won, and the demons were all banished forever. The Watchers council stopped training slayers, because they decided that without demons (including vampires) there was no point, but watched the world with fear, waiting for the vampires to return. The world gets all crappy through purely-human interaction, there appears to be some nuclear war involved, and many hundreds of years later the vampires come back.
Melaka Fray fights them. With the help of a demon. Because the Watcher's council has gone all insane.
This could easily be the start of that great war. For that to happen, Buffy would need to drop in, probably bringing along the Watcher's Council, and join the MoG for the fight. And fight. And fight.
It was kind of implied (I thought) that Buffy was the one that fought that war, because of the whole "with select friends" thing, so that makes a lot of sense to me. Maybe a Buffy movie will eventually show us.
ETA: Also, you should read the heck out of that comic. Everybody interested in the Buffyverse and Joss should. It's real good.
Thanks, NovaChild. I doubt I'll get the comics because I'm a recovering comic-aholic and I'm afraid of what could happen if I wandered into a comic book store again after several years of being clean and sober, so I needed the summary.
This part:
Because the Watcher's council has gone all insane.
...Seems pretty inevitable. I mean,
were they ever sane in the first place?
And who sent those cyber-ninjas in Lineage anyway?
OK, I made a semi-jestful comment (given that we seem to be turning into the Batistas) about Illyria surviving and deciding to fight the good fight using Fred as a disguise. And then, the more I thought about it, the more I thought: Hmmm, they had the idea of a Spike/Faith spinoff - how about a Fredyllia/Spike spinoff as the travel the country battling what they have to (not even necessarily good or evil)? I mean, it's probably the monkey crack talking, but I could see that working. Spike would be her pet vampire, who teaches her, in his unique way, what it means to be "human". It would even be a fun way to bring other ME characters in for guest appearences.
It's DEFINITELY the monkey crack talking, right?
Re: Fray Well, the
only watcher in the comic sets himself on fire immediately upon discovering the slayer. Mumbling "you are the chosen one."
Read it anyway. IJS. It's not like other comics. It's JOSS!

Sent from the Future that Will Never Be by The Circle of Season Six.

I like it better with Faith. I dunno, with Illyria, it could just get really, really preachy. But cool nonetheless, since Illyria=HOT.

This just makes the potential for backsliding worse. Because if it's good, then I'll want to poke around and see who ELSE might be doing good stuff these days, and I'll find much swill and a few gems, and I'll spend much time seeking out the gems and....it'll just end ugly. Me in the gutter with a brown paper bag full of crappy comics.
If you are a good person, you will not sell me another comic.
(You want to come play City of Heroes with me, though, I'm on server -- what else -- "Champion" :)

Winick, Grayson, Simone, Rucka.
