Bureaucracy 3: Oh, so now you want to be part of the SOLUTION?
A thread to discuss naming threads, board policy, new thread suggestions, and anything else that has to do with board administration and maintenance. Guaranteed to include lively debate and polls. Natter discouraged, but not deleted.

Also, I'm pretty sure Battlestar Galactica is supposed to be discussed in Boxed Set, but I hate Boxed Set and never want to go in there, because of the volume of other shows discussed that I have absolutely no interest in at all (Stargate and Stargate: Atlantis), and because of whitefont issues.
Which sucks for me, because I know there are many Buffistas who like and watch the show, and I want to talk about it with Buffistas, but that option is pretty much closed to me.
There are reams and reams of BSG discussion in Boxed Set. Far more than any posts discussing the Stargates, since they've been on hiatus.
Did I miss how we were going to enact this lower standard of proof for establishing/deleting threads? If it doesn't come along with some kind of procedure, I can't imagine us limiting discussion by consensus.
Boxed Set's slug:
Discussions of sci-fi/fantasy shows we watch. Smallville, Due South, Farscape, Stargate, BSG, etc. May contain HoYay.
Description:
A topic for the discussion of Farscape, Smallville, and Due South. Beware possible invasions of Stargate, Highlander, or pretty much any other "genre" show that captures our fancy. Expect Adult Content and discussion of the Big Gay Sex.
Is it the apparent conflict between SFF and genre? I think SFF is clear and covers every show discussed. I'm slow, and only just learning that genre, even when taken as a specific term, means things other than SFF to people. And to that end, I'm perfectly open to a description revamp. I just had no idea.
pretty sure Battlestar Galactica is supposed to be discussed in Boxed Set
Pretty sure? What, from the slug, makes you less than actually sure?
Not wanting to go in because of whitefont issues and shows you're not interested in isn't about bright lines, and would seem to be an argument for not expanding threads, if anything.
how we were going to enact this lower standard of proof for establishing/deleting threads
I don't think you missed anything. I'm wondering myself.
Did I miss how we were going to enact this lower standard of proof for establishing/deleting threads?
I don't think we've gotten that far. It's David's idea, not mine. I just think his idea has the most potential to solve the problem of any suggestions made so far.
And I am in no way in disagreement with or opposed to your need for a clearly defined procedure.

Um, I already said I fled the thread long ago, so I haven't looked at the header or description in forever. Others upthread here have already complained about the lack of accurate discriptiveness in the thread header and description for Boxed Set. I was merely taking them at their word. I guess I should have done more research, but I'm not sure that invalidates my points.
Also, I guess I'm not sure what your position is either, ita, aside from a need for bright lines.
I'm still mildly in favor of my own idea, but it doesn't look like it appeals to too many people. I am not sure there's a happy medium between a very exclusive thread and too much whitefont.
Actually, I think your idea has merit too, bon.
But it's also pretty clear that the topics are too broad for some, which just leads us back to nobody ever being completely satisfied.
That's why I don't think it's an invalid choice to decide we're not TWOP, and maybe the best choice is to give up TV discussion altogether, except where it comes up in Natter.
That would probably be unsatisfactory to just about everybody, but at least everybody would be more or less equally unhappy about it.
I guess I'm not sure what your position is either, ita, aside from a need for bright lines.
My position is always a need for bright lines. How I'd vote on a proposal with bright lines varies. How I'd agitate during discussion of one without does not.
I'm not sure that invalidates my points.
Then I'm not sure what your point was either. Either Boxed Set has bright lines, or it doesn't. If the descriptions don't, I want them altered to reflect what I see as a fairly standard category.
However, I consider bright lines clearly existing, and want that reality made clear itself.
If these bright lines
don't
exist, as per your post, I want to work out what's fuzzy and clear that up posthaste.
The way I see it, from my often-lurking-occasionally-posting-fairly-newbie point of view, is that Boxed Set == sci-fi (BSG etc), Lost VM and Heroes work great as they (mostly) have the traffic. (Plus I'm able to ignore Heroes as I'm behind). I do skip some of Boxed Set as it's shows I don't watch (and don't want to be spoiled), but people are good with white font. From an international point of view I'd be confused about what's on FX, because I don't actually know. But I am presuming the focus is for US users, since that's likely 95% of people here.
