Trust my rage

I get pinged if your very first post here is about selling your stuff. To me, that's one step away from spam.

IOW, I agree with Sean.

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

I agree, but I think in this case a quick "hey, that's not so cool here, but feel free to hang around and chat" note is the most I'd think would be required. And maybe removing the Beep Me post but leaving the in-thread?

What is even happening?

I don't like it, but don't think it rises to the level of addressing, and as P-C points out, the person was polite.

Ann, that's a ferret.

The person pinged me, too, because I hadn't seen them on the board before. I'm not sure it's so much specifically unBuffista as poor general Netiquette. OTOH, after one post in Natter and one in Beep Me, they've gone quiet (unless there are others in threads I haven't subscribed to).

I'm less picky than some about Beep Me vs. Press, so I'll only say that it seems a lesser issue than introducing oneself by inviting people to a private auction.

Put me toward bullshit consensus on a note in Beep Me that such things really shouldn't be done. Nothing in Natter because the conversation has moved a long way on. And nothing to be done to the poster at this time.

Our wings are not tired.

I @@ and ignored.

I think that such posts are OK so long as they are polite and infrequent. If we start getting a lot of them, then we can discuss a formal rule.

Agree with Jon.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

Heh. I was wondering when we were going to start discussing the spam...

I don't like seeing that sort of thing in Natter, (and I didn't even notice that the other post was in Beep Me instead of Press), but the tone of the post made it seem like a one-time thing, which, whatever.

I remember the crazy days. 500 posts an hour. Nubmer! Natgbsb

I would just like to say that I love that no one tried to engage with the poster in thread and "set them straight" about "how we do things".

Yeah, it kinda made me raise an eyebrow when I read it, but OTOH, it was v. polite, and really, is something that we could, in theory, be interested in. If it repeated, I'd be against it, but...frankly, in among a bunch of "oh, I'm grey for the weekend" stuff, is it that shocking or out of place? I don't find it so bad.

Well, speaking just for myself, I only saw the Beep Me post and Beep Me isn't the kind of thread where you get to do that.

Now tagless for your comfort.

I was waiting to see if the person actually appeared in a thread like Natter. Since they didn't, I just figured it was drive by spam--which doesn't usually create a call for action.
