You always do this. We get tipsy, and you take advantage of my love of the scientific method.

Calling out Bitches as NAFDA was meant to illustrate that being a show thread and being NAFDA weren't related.

Gotcha.

Here's what it says in the FAQ:

Q. NAFDA? Is that an international Buffista treaty?

A. Ummm..... No. It's the North American Free Discussion Area. We have many posters who aren't from North America and are therefore half a season or more behind. In order to keep them unspoiled, we limit discussion of current episodes to specific threads. These are the NAFDA threads. If it's not labeled as a NAFDA thread, don't talk about current episodes in it. We also ask that you don't discuss one show's current season in another show's topic without whitefont, because some people are on tape delay. This means that events from the current season of Buffy should be whitefonted in the Angel topic and vice versa.

First off, we probably ought to update the definition since it's very Buffy and Angel centric. Second, I think Boxed set probably ought to be NAFDA. I checked back, and both the Farscape and the Smallville threads were NAFDA back when they were separate.

"Faded like the lilac, he thought."

Well, Bitches was originally at least theoretically a show thread. Wherein we could discuss how much hotter Spike was in this week's episode than last week's. Not that it ever really was that, but that was at least putatively the intent.

Not that it's applicable here. And yeah, Boxed Set could be NAFDA. But I thought any whitefont issues were more to do with the multi-show thread problems than anything else, right?

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

that was at least putatively the intent.

The first thread's blurb says

a smaller, separate forum to simply express our appreciation for our favorite platinum-topped vampire... vent, adore, express

I don't think Karie cared about it as a show thread at all.

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

Second, I think Boxed set probably ought to be NAFDA. I checked back, and both the Farscape and the Smallville threads were NAFDA back when they were separate.

The big problem, definition-wise, is that it's not UnAms who are at risk of being spoiled anymore, generally. The current issue seems to be things that are broadcast in the UK and or Canada weeks before (usually SciFi) puts them on in the US. So NAFDA gets a little confusing.

Canada's the problem, really.

"Mister Spock is on his fanny, sir. Reports heavy damage."

We will have an updated FAQ for review by the community next week.

Indeed. I was asking the question as part of updating FAQ-y materials.

We have "we seen it in the US but noplace else, please discuss with whitefont," situations, and their converse, "we seen it everywhere else but the US, please discuss with whitefont."

The latter occurrs regularly in Natter, which is not NAFDA. It occurred (without anybody objecting) in Boxed Set in the autumn. Previous to that, it occurred sporadically and with much confusion and wrangling in the various Firefly threads, as 3 episodes were broadcast in Britain that the US had to wait for. It was the Firefly situation that first alerted me to the idea that geographic whitefonting could happen inside-out, because I am a big ole US-centric slob that way.

In sum, Boxed Set seems to function OK with geographic whitefonting for shows on a schedule different from the US. I don't think anybody has raised a stink about it recently, so I don't know of a reason to change Boxed Set over to a NAFDA designation. I was just feeling clueless, and had to ask.

It's five thousand for kissing, ten thousand for snuggling... End of list.

We will have an updated FAQ for review by the community next week.

Do you FAQ ladies have an idea on how the community will go about reviewing it? Is it too early to discuss how to keep the new FAQ from getting mired in a community-wide editorial process?
