I don't think so. In all those cases, I don't see it as the warning that's driven them away, but the fact that they were who they were (in this community context, at least) in the first place. Bon and Allyson said "hey, this is serious for the community; I Must Chill" in a way that they didn't and never would've.
I think a couple of people wielded the warny stick, right after we instituted the policy, but that it didn't get to the Actual Implementation of the warny stick till Caroma had her meltdown. Everybody else just waved it around, like svelte and non-mustachoied Teddy Roosevelts.
See, in my head, Wolfram was warned and then became a good poster, but perhaps it was just in thread warning, like bon bon (which I don't remember at all!)
And actually, I think that's why our current system works: People who care enough to be part of the community respond to the in-thread and general waving of the warny stick. At the same time, we have a formal procedure for people who don't get it, or don't want to.

OK, that was genuinely weird; I saw a bunch of new posts, checked, and saw my name on a post I didn't make and didn't know about. Now, that's what a call a genuine OMGWTF? moment, first thing in the morning.
