Every night I get mailed a log of access attempts to the buffistas.org server (web doesn't count).
Some days it's small, 3K, just bitching about DNS. Other days, it's 177K, because some jackhole in the Netherlands is botting us and trying to log in as test, guest, user, admin, r00t, amar, adam, adela, anonymous, adrian, etc.
It's kinda sad that bandwidth and CPU cycles are that cheap.
Can you tell me more about what that means?
I went to the Alexa launch party back in the .com era; Karl, is the Wayback Machine a descendant of Alexa?
Can you tell me more about what that means?
It means that there's a cockbite in Holland with nothing better to do than bang away on our server by trying to log in under every possible generic username he can think of.
In order to log in with an existing username? And then what? Spam us in diguise?
Hee. Jesse, your tag seems very appropriate with that last post.
I don't want to be THAT kind of bad guy!!
You don't want to thwap the irritating spammer? Eesh. I do.
Not web stuff. They're trying to log into the server.
I doubt they care what kind of server -- they might be flexing scriptkiddy muscles, or hoping there's CC data or something lurking.
So they log into the server just to see what's there? Yick. Could the fuck with the code if they got in?
You don't want to thwap the irritating spammer? Eesh. I do.
That's good guy stuff!
