We're still working on a plan, but so far it involves being sent to prison and becoming somebody's bitch.

Oh, Tom. You've revealed too much, and now I have to kill you. Tsk tsk.

I'll get right on that. Sorry, Tom. I really like you, but this is just business....

Sean, I think we have another name to add to "the list."

From a new guy's perpective, I've been thinking about the dedication on the Buffistas homepage:

A community dedicated to discussions of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel and Firefly with humor, intelligence and obsessiveness. Read our FAQ, then join the fun.

This may have been true a few years ago, but now, not so much. My initial inclination was to suggest revising the foregoing to add Serenity to the list, since the upcoming movie isn't Firefly per se anymore. But then I got to looking at the various thread topics and the other shows mentioned within Natter and Bitches as well as the conversations in general and it occurs to me that perhaps it might be worthy of discussion to revise the dedication in its entirety to more accurately reflect why we are here composing so many lines of prose (and not so prosey scribblings).

I would suggest that one of the overarching reasons you are here is because of the friendships and common interests that have developed within this community. I also think there is a certain level of mutual respect for the average level of intelligence of the people who regularly contribute here. Note the attention to punctuation and the dearth of emoticons and the use of words like dearth.

I'm new to your community and I know I haven't earned my place here, but I thought I should share my thoughts, from a newcomer's perspective, since things like dedications tend to get neglected over time. The shows listed in the dedication have all run their run and yet this board is still thriving for a reason and I feel the dedication should reflect that.

I think it would be productive for everyone to share their thoughts on the community and make suggestions for a revised dedication.

What is even happening?

Hi, Eddie. We were just discussing this at the beginning of the month: msbelle "Bureaucracy 3: Oh, so now you want to be part of the SOLUTION?" Apr 5, 2005 6:40:58 am PDT

It sort of ended here: JohnSweden "Bureaucracy 3: Oh, so now you want to be part of the SOLUTION?" Apr 7, 2005 12:15:14 pm PDT

To sum it up:

Change is needed.

Change is good.

Change is evil.

Change should be avoided at all cost.

We could change it to this.

Changing it to this totally ignores that.

Oh. No, I hate that.

Yeah, but I hate this, even worse.

Canadians spell funny.

Our wings are not tired.

What is even happening?

Thank you, Laura. I love you, too. That is all.

Except to add...

You're completely right about change being evil.

That's the pain / That cuts a straight line down through the heart / We call it love

Hey Eddie, thanks for your input. Yours is a perspective we don't usually get during this conversation, so that's definitely useful. We've discussed changing the dedication several times, and I think Cindy encapsulated the typical discussion pretty well; I don't see the dedication changing anytime soon, because it's really difficult for us to come to an agreement about it. But I'm glad you brought it up, because it does bear thinking about periodically.

Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

Eddie--very perceptive, dude! Your description really does capture the Buffista way.

glances at Eddie, impressed

I had a funny feeling this might have been discussed before, but I wanted to give my input on the issue. Plus, you know, can't be bothered to search and stuff.

You could try a "Random Dedication Generator" with things like "We talk about Buffy!" and "Tim Minear is a hottie, discuss.".

Or simply, "We talk a lot."

Or, fiat!

Not an easy subject to reach a consensus on, I'm sure, but as I've pointed out, as the weeks and months go by, the current dedication loses its relevance and accuracy. FWIW, I think we (can I use we? seems presumptious of me) should do "something". I'll leave it to the big kids in the group to decide what that is.
