A thread to discuss naming threads, board policy, new thread suggestions, and anything else that has to do with board administration and maintenance. Guaranteed to include lively debate and polls. Natter discouraged, but not deleted.

FWIW, I still like pithy, clever, show-offy thread names, even the pop culture ones DH has to explain to me because of the large gaps in my musical and cinematic knowledge.
I'm with Susan here.
I'm not sure I get why people who don't like the discussion on thread names bother to participate in them. What's the harm in just skipping that conversation? Or is it the thread names themselves that are an issue?

I think they're fun and changing the titles keeps the board "fresh".
Or is it the thread names themselves that are an issue?
I think it is more the fact that people enjoy arguing/discussing what the titles should be and people's emotions get too vested into the process. This is especially true for threads like Bitches & Natter, but they need to be changed so often anyway, so I just refer to them as "Bitches" or "Natter" - the rest of the title is just something fun. I'll throw my ideas and votes in, but in the end, really, it's not all that important.

Because when you see 100 posts in Bureau, your automatic thought is to wonder what's up. And then you find out it's just arguing over what to call Bitches 587, and since you've read 100 posts about it, you may as well pipe in.
Or that's how it works for me, anyhow.
I'm in corner area of Lyra, Kat, and Beverly for this one, oh, and with a side of Nutty. Ultimatley, though, when I'm not in the mood for it, I can just scroll.
I thought "Older than Jesus" was funny, but I would prefer not to offend. Most days.
Also don't think "I'm offended by that," is anything to apologize for, Cindy.
I have to confess. I don't get why the phrase "Older than Jesus" is considered disrespectful or offensive. The nailing one, yes. But the age thing I just don't understand.
Kind of my take too, though I'm not keen on offending Cindy.

This was my thinking when I mentioned disrespect, but I didn't want to get into trying to define why one mention of Jesus seemed disrespectful to me and the other didn't and then I just never got back to the conversation in time.
FWIW, I really like the thread naming - it makes us distinctive and it shows off the cleverness of buffistas.
forced Beverly to propose it.
Nobody puts Bevvie in the corner. I'm opinionated, not matrimonial, no proposing was done or intended. I also enjoy the clever, but not the snippiness that inevitably seems to spring up around the clever. I'm just a little tired, and got my cranky on.
a side of Nutty.
Is this better or worse than Beverly being put in a corner??
Am I like a wunnerful potato-salad side, or am I like a side of beef waiting to be chopped up?

I'm with Jen on all of this, FWIW.
