"I'm useless alone." // "We're all useless alone. It's a good thing you're not alone."

They may not want a record of it typed directly into the address bar. Depending on whose computer you're using, what it's set to remember, how AutoComplete is set up, blah blah blah...

Now let us crush something soft and watch it fountain blood. That is a girlish thing to want to do, yes?

I know this is a silly question, but why do people *search* for www.buffistas.org? Why not just type it into the location bar?!

The address bar thing, plus there's this whole freaky phenomenon where tons of people act as if google or yahoo or whatever *is* the internet, and type in whatever they want there whether they know the URL or not.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I realise it's become so second-nature for me to edit people's posts to close tags that I don't mention it anymore. It transitioned from suggesting the poster do it, to doing it and telling the poster, to just doing it.

I'd hate for an edited by ita tag to be misunderstood -- are other stompies doing this? Should I stop? Should we note somewhere, if it's normal behaviour that it is normal?

DXMachina - Apr 29, 2004 4:28:53 pm PDT #310 of 10001
You always do this. We get tipsy, and you take advantage of my love of the scientific method.

ita, I do it all the time. The first time I do it for a new poster, I usually post to explain.

eta: I agree that it might be worth a note in the FAQ about what stompies do.

So come, my friends, be not afraid/We are so lightly here/It is in love that we are made; In love we disappear

I'm doing it.

If I remember, I leave a note in small text at the bottom explaining I fixed a tag, so that it's clear to the poster what happened and he or she doesn't freak.

We should add a note.

Now let us crush something soft and watch it fountain blood. That is a girlish thing to want to do, yes?

I do it, and try to remember to leave a note saying that I did (i.e., a post saying "Yo, so-and-so, I edited your post to close an errant tag). But I think I sometimes forget to leave the note.

I don't have a problem with doing it, but I think we should make a note of it, along the lines of "The stompies may edit your posts if a formatting error is causing problems with other posts in the thread. Don't be alarmed -- we won't do anything more invasive than that unless there's a spoiler violation or you're nattering in Press or Beep Me."

Bob's learned to live with tragedy, but he knows that this tragedy is one that won't ever leave him or get better.

I'd hate for an edited by ita tag to be misunderstood
I just realize / figger that I failed to close a tag.

If there were any transgressions larger to that, I assumer there would be a note. Turning the board 15 degrees to the right cause I forgot a slash to close an italic tag, NSM.

Um, long way to say, the current way works for me.

A turkey in every toilet -- only in America!

What DX, PM, amych said. Except I always remember to leave a note. :P

It's five thousand for kissing, ten thousand for snuggling... End of list.

I know this is a silly question, but why do people *search* for www.buffistas.org? Why not just type it into the location bar?!

I do it all the time. Part of the reason is that-- I think this has to do with having the google toolbar-- if I type in an address it can't resolve it brings up the search results; without thinking, I type the address into the search box instead of the address box.
