The problem with a code-based solution -- and I don't want to sound like I'm disregarding their work, here -- is that it can only come into practice as quickly as Gud, ita, et. al. can get it up, and I know there are other things they have going on. The check-box will be a great solution when/if we get it, but a spoilers lite thread would be useful right away.
'Touched'
Bureaucracy 3: Oh, so now you want to be part of the SOLUTION?
A thread to discuss naming threads, board policy, new thread suggestions, and anything else that has to do with board administration and maintenance. Guaranteed to include lively debate and polls. Natter discouraged, but not deleted.
Current Stompy Feet: ita, Jon B, DXMachina, P.M. Marcontell, Liese S., amych
I don't think turning off the white font really addresses the issue. Spoiler slutting is different culturally than spoiler lite. A hardcore spoiler thread will be about discussion - it won't work if some people are reading some things and some people are reading everything.
People who spoiler slut are (to generalize - not meaning to speak for everybody) not as invested in narrative surprise and are more interested in getting to the re-read, the mulling over, the speculation, the watching the patterns emerge. I'd still be required to white font and be careful about what I'm saying - which is not the point of the spoilers thead at all.
What Hec Said.
Though he left out the all-important snark factor.
Do we not discuss upcoming writers and that kind of thing in Natter? I thought we did.
David really nailed it actually. We spoiler embracers love to discuss shit.
What Hec Said.
You know, and she hardly ever says that. Because she's too busy snarking at me.
I agree with Hec. I used to love BOTh the Spoilers Lite thread AND going and reading the great discussions in spoilers after I had been surprised.
Also, would people who are reading spoiler font remember to use spoiler font, as DX mentioned?
Sophia! Hi.
Also, would people who are reading spoiler font remember to use spoiler font, as DX mentioned? This worries me, too. And really, highlighting is a one-click (okay, and drag) solution, already.
David, Plei, and le nubian explained how full-blown spoiling is for me, too. But also, there's a luxury of forgetfulness to it. I don't have to remember *how* I know something (that is to know if it is postable in a full spoilers thread), or if I know it, or just put it together from a combination of non-spoilers, spoilers, and news.
Also, would people who are reading spoiler font remember to use spoiler font, as DX mentioned?
The more I think about it, the messier it gets. What if you've turned off spoiler font, and want to quoteback something someone else has said? If you're a good Buffista citizen, you'll have to turn the spoiler font back on to see exactly what parts of the passage you're quoting are spoiler fonted so you can duplicate the spoiler fonting in the quoteback. Then you actually have to do all the requisite spoiler fonting in the quoteback and in your own post, and then you can turn spoiler font off again. Until the next time you want to post something. That's gonna get to be a huge pain in the ass.
